During the War of Liberation, our army defeated the Kuomintang army in the northeast battlefield one after another, collapsed into an army, and finally liberated the northeast region, and Chen Cheng, a Kuomintang general who lost the northeast region, was not only not punished, but was also sent by Chiang Kai-shek to Taiwan in the rear. After fighting such a big defeat, why can it still be so favored by Chiang Kai-shek?

This also begins with the encounter between Chen Cheng and Chiang Kai-shek. Chen Cheng, who was born in 1898, did not have too high military attainments at the beginning, and even fell behind when he first applied for the Baoding Army Officer School, but fortunately, there was a person named Du Zhiyuan who helped him later, and Chen Cheng went through the back door to enter the officer school. After graduating from Baoding Army officers, Chen Cheng joined the Kuomintang and served as a platoon leader in the Kuomintang, and later was recommended to enter the artillery section of the Whampoa Military Academy as an instructor, and it was at this time that Chiang Kai-shek and Chen Cheng met.
After that, Chen Cheng participated in two Eastern Expeditions and the Northern Expedition, and both achieved considerable results, which made Chiang Kai-shek attach great importance to him. In this way, under chiang kai-shek's promotion, Chen Cheng's status within the Kuomintang became higher and higher, and he eventually became Chiang Kai-shek's confidant. In fact, there is another reason why chiang kai-shek can be favored, that is, both of them are fellow zhejiang compatriots. At the beginning, Chiang Kai-shek had two subjective conditions for selecting talents, the first of which was his fellow countrymen. However, even as a fellow of Chiang Kai-shek, he still cannot get into Chiang Kai-shek's legal eyes without some real materials, and judging from the two Eastern Expeditions and the Northern Expedition, this Chen Cheng still has two brushes.
As for the reason why Chiang Kai-shek would favor Chen Cheng so much. The first point is Chen Cheng's loyalty to Chiang Kai-shek, you know, Chen Cheng was known as the "small committee chairman" within the Kuomintang, and Chen Cheng established his own faction within the Kuomintang, the "Civil Engineering Department." This "civil engineering department" is very powerful, and it is trained by outstanding generals of the Kuomintang, and these generals are absolutely loyal to Chiang Kai-shek. As mentioned earlier, Chiang Kai-shek and Chen Cheng were fellow countrymen, and this is the point of Chen Cheng's loyalty to Chiang Kai-shek, and Chen Cheng was also from Huangpu, and Chiang Kai-shek was the principal of Huangpu, and Chen Cheng began to follow Chiang Kai-shek during the Northern Expedition, so this is the reason why Chen Cheng was loyal to Chiang Kai-shek. Chen Cheng made relatively important contributions when the Kuomintang army was carrying out the task of "encirclement and suppression" and put forward many more pertinent opinions for Chiang Kai-shek in the War of Resistance Against Japan.
The second reason is a woman, and this woman is the fundamental reason why Chen Cheng has always won the favor of Chiang Kai-shek. This woman is Chen Cheng's wife, Tan Xiang. Tan Xiang is Chen Cheng's second wife, speaking of Tan Xiang may not be familiar to everyone, some people will ask, how can a woman help Chen Cheng gain Chiang Kai-shek's favor? Because Tan Xiang is Tan Yanmin's daughter. Tan Yanmin was an important figure who followed Dr. Sun Yat-sen in the early stages of the revolution, and was one of the elders within the Kuomintang, Chiang Kai-shek has always respected Tan Yanmin, because Tan Yanmin has helped Chiang Kai-shek many times, and the two are also very good friends, Tan Yanmin also personally brokered the marriage between Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling.
Tan Yanmin entrusted his daughter Tan Xiang to Chiang Kai-shek and Song Meiling when he died, and Jiang and Song always remembered Tan Yanmin's words, and after Tan Yanmin's death, the two recognized Tan Xiang as dry daughters. Later, Jiang and Song handled the marriage affairs for Tan Xiang and selected two people as Tan Xiang's marriage candidates, and Chen Cheng was one of them. In the end, Tan Xiang chose Chen Cheng, Chen Cheng naturally will not let go of this opportunity, in order to marry Tan Xiang, Chen Cheng divorced his wife Wu Shi.
After Chen Cheng and Tan Xiang married, Chen Cheng can be regarded as Chiang Kai-shek's "half son", and every time Chen Cheng makes a mistake, Tan Xiang will come forward to intercede for Chen Cheng, which is why Chen Cheng can be so favored by Chiang Kai-shek. However, Chen Cheng still had some real talent and hard work, and he also made a lot of merit for Chiang Kai-shek during the war, and after he went to Taiwan, he also implemented a lot of policies to manage Taiwan and helped Chiang Kai-shek to take care of Taiwan in an orderly manner; otherwise, chen Cheng would not have been able to win Chiang Kai-shek's favor all the time by relying on only one Tan Xiang.
