But after entering 1947, it began to decline, and there were constantly senior generals surrounded on the battlefield. In order to rescue these people from the encirclement of our army, Lao Jiang always mobilized heavy troops to relieve them, but most of these siege-breaking operations ended in failure. During the entire Liberation War, the Nationalist army carried out no less than a hundred siege breaks, but only once and a half were successful, and the protagonists were Huang Baitao.
Among the many senior generals of the Nationalist Army, Huang Baitao is a relatively special existence. He was neither a graduate of the Baoding Military Academy nor from Huangpu, but after joining the army, he first followed Li Chun, the overseer of Jiangsu, and then followed Zhang Zongchang, and Zhang Zongchang defected after zhang Zongchang's defeat. Because of his bravery and good fighting, he was appreciated by the old Chiang Kai-shek and was appointed as the commander of the reorganized 25th Division. In early May 1947, Chen Cheng mobilized 25 reorganized divisions with a total of 450,000 troops to launch a key attack on the Shandong Liberated Area, and Zhang Lingfu left Huang Baitao and Li Tianxia on both wings to advance in order to seize the lead. Huang Baitao saw that Zhang Lingfu was running too fast, and several columns of Hua Ye were showing signs of going south, so he called him and said, "Brother Zhong Lin, don't you rush so fast!" If you retreat a little and control The Tianma Ridge, I, you, and Xia Gong (Li Tianxia) form a three-point line, and the communist army will have no gap to drill, and there is no way to take us. ”
Unexpectedly, Zhang Lingfu said dismissively: "Brother Huanran, the communist army is now in a state of fluff, where is the courage to fight a decisive battle with our army?" If you are afraid of your head and tail, you are bound to miss the fighter! Soon, Zhang Lingfu, who was alone and deep, was surrounded by Hua Ye in Meng Lianggu. After learning that Zhang Lingfu was surrounded, Lao Jiang immediately mobilized heavy troops to relieve him, but among the 25 reorganized division commanders, only Huang Baitao was willing to fight to the death. In order to relieve Zhang Lingfu, Huang Baitao did his best, and the whole division suffered more than 4,000 casualties, almost being crippled. Although Zhang Lingfu was not rescued in the end, Old Jiang still awarded Huang Baitao a fourth-class Cloud Medal.
After the reorganized 74th Division was destroyed, Hua Ye aimed its next target at Hu Lian's reorganized 11th Division, which was encircled in the Nanma area in mid-July 1947. While hu lian desperately resisted, he asked chen cheng for help on the other, Hu Lian was Chen Cheng's concubine and the 11th division was also his starting unit, so Chen Cheng did not dare to be sloppy, and urgently ordered Huang Baitao in the Donglidian area to help Hu Lian. Huang Baitao led the 25th Division to attack all the way, fighting to the death, and finally broke through the defensive position of our 7th Column, and forced Hu Lian to be rescued. The success of this siege relief operation made Huang Baitao famous, and lao Jiang was impressed by him.
A year later, the Battle of Eastern Henan broke out, and Ou Shounian and his 7th Corps were surrounded by Huaye in the Suiqi area. In order to rescue Ou Shounian, Lao Jiang mobilized reinforcements including Huang Baitao, Hu Lian and Qiu Qingquan to relieve the siege. Among these reinforcements, the most active action was still Huang Baitao, but Ou Shounian was too unbeaten, and when Huang Baitao arrived, he had already been captured alive by our army. In the end, Huang Baitao only rescued one division of the 7th Corps, so this siege relief operation could only be regarded as half successful. However, due to Huang Baitao's forcing back HuaYe's attack and causing certain losses to our army, Old Jiang awarded him a Qingtian White Sun Medal, and soon after promoted him to the commander of the 7th Corps. After the Outbreak of the Battle of Huaihai, due to Liu Zhi's blind command, Huang Baitao was surrounded by our army in the Nianzhuangwei area. This nationalist general, who had spent most of his life breaking the siege for others, could only expect others to break the siege for himself at this time, but Qiu Qingquan and Li Mi were unwilling to fight to the death in order to protect themselves, which eventually led to the defeat and death of Huang Baitao's soldiers.
