From the time of Tang Gaozu's li yuan's self-reliance on behalf of sui to the time when the mourning emperor Li Yu was deposed by the powerful minister Zhu Wen, the Tang Dynasty was founded for a total of 289 years, and according to the history books, it experienced 21 emperors (including Wu Zetian). However, there was a real emperor during this period, but because he was too young and reigned for a very short time, he has not been recognized by historians. This person was Li Chongmao, the Emperor of Tang Dynasty, who reigned for only 17 days.
Li Chongmao was the fourth son of Emperor Zhongzong Li Xian. Emperor Zhongzong had four sons and nine daughters, of whom the eldest son Li Chongrun (who was later killed by his grandmother Wu Zetian) and the seventh daughter, Princess Anle, were all born to Empress Wei, and the birth mothers of the remaining children are unknown. Li Chongmao was initially made the King of Beihai, and later the King of Wen, the Grand General of the Right Guard, and the Governor of Yaoling and the Governor of The Prefecture, but he did not leave the cabinet due to his young age. The reason why he was crowned emperor was entirely due to Empress Baiwei.
Emperor Zhongzong of Tang ascended the throne twice and reigned for a total of 5 years
During emperor Zhongzong's abandonment of Fangling, because he was worried about his mother's harm, every time he heard that a messenger had come to comfort him, he subconsciously thought that he was going to kill him, and he wanted to commit suicide in panic. Fortunately, Merriam-Webster repeatedly stopped him, so that he regained the courage to live. In this way, Emperor Zhongzong and Wei Shi relied on each other for their lives and survived the difficulties together, and after being moved, they vowed that once the restoration was successful, they would share the world with their wives and would not interfere with what she did.
Fourteen years later ( 698 ) , Li Xian was recalled by Wu Zetian to Luoyang and regain the throne as crown prince. Seven years later (705), with the help of the chancellor Zhang Kamzhi, Li Xian's restoration was successful. Just as the so-called "once the power of the dynasty is in hand, it will be carried out", Wei Shi, who has regained the throne, frequently interfered in the affairs of the dynasty, and openly betrayed the officials and lords, persecuted dissidents, and made the government and politics miasma. Not only that, Empress Wei also had an affair with her former enemy Wu Sansi, creating a lot of scandals, and although Emperor Zhongzong heard about it many times, he did not stop it.
Empress Wei realized the "empress dream" and actually poisoned her husband Jun
Power is like opium, and it is easy for "suckers" to fantasize. After Empress Wei held great power, her lusts were extremely inflated, and she gradually began to be dissatisfied with the empress's position, and finally wanted to follow in the footsteps of her mother-in-law and become the "second wu zetian". It happened that at this time, Princess Anle was clamoring to be the imperial consort, and the two women, who were completely on a "track", decided to join hands to do a big business. However, although Emperor Zhongzong fainted, he still had some understanding of the thoughts of his wife and daughter, and although he did not dare to openly refute them, he secretly set up various obstacles to prevent them from acting arbitrarily.
In this way, Zhongzong gradually became a "stumbling block" for Empress Wei's mother and daughter to realize the "empress dream", and if they did not get rid of him, things could not succeed at all. Therefore, in June of the fourth year of Jinglong (710), Empress Wei's mother and daughter did not hesitate to poison and kill Emperor Zhongzong, and threatened to the outside world that it was a violent collapse ("Princess Shi Anle wanted empress dowager to be in power, and qiuli became the empress dowager, and she conspired with Hou to enter the palace.") Emperor Li Chongmao of tang reigned for only 17 days before he was deposed
After emperor Zhongzong's death, Empress Wei copied her mother-in-law's "routine" and made Li Chongmao, a 15-year-old infant, emperor, while she herself bowed to the government. Empress Wei's "wishful thinking" was to first make Li Chongmao emperor for a few days, and then force him to give way to himself after the wings were full and the time was ripe. After sitting on the empress's seat, she will appoint Princess Anle as the imperial consort, and at that time both mother and daughter can achieve their own pursuits.
Unfortunately, people are not as good as heavenly calculations, and just as the world is waiting for a new empress to emerge, Princess Taiping, the sister of Emperor Zhongzong, and her nephew Li Longji (son of Tang Ruizong), the King of Linzi, attacked, who led an army straight into the palace, killed Empress Wei and Princess Anle with lightning speed, and swept away Wei's henchmen, in July of that year, less than a month before Wei's Linchao.
Princess Taiping fell in power in the ruizong dynasty
After the coup, Princess Taiping coerced the young emperor into issuing an edict ceding the throne to her uncle Li Dan (Tang Ruizong), who, after some hypocritical resignation, successfully restored the throne (Li Dan succeeded his brother Li Xian as emperor and gave way to his mother Wu Zetian a few years later). After Emperor Ruizong was restored, he demoted Li Chongmao to the title of King of Wen, and the following year he was renamed the Prince of Xiang and moved to Jizhou to take care of him. From beginning to end, Li Chongmao only sat on the throne for 17 days.
In the fourth year of Jinglong, Emperor Zhongzong collapsed, and the Wei shu people established Chongmao as emperor, and the self-proclaimed dynasty was called. After the defeat of Wei Shigeru, Shigemoto abdicated the throne, leaving his uncle Xiang Wang to retire to another place. In the second year of Jing Yun's reign, he changed his title to King Xiang and moved to Jizhou, where he ordered Zhonglang to lead an army of 500 men to guard it. At the beginning of Tang Xuanzong's reign, Li Chongmao died mysteriously
Not long after, Li Chongmao was implicated in the rebellion of his brother Li Chongfu (the eldest son of Emperor Zhongzong) and was demoted to the title of Fangzhou Assassin in 714 AD, and soon died of a strange illness in the garrison, at the age of 19 ("The second year of the new century, transferred to the History of Fangzhou Thorns."). Ascending the throne in ignorance, abdicating the throne, and dying in a bizarre state, Li Chongmao's life is purely a tragedy.
