According to foreign media The Verge, the multi-functional OLED transparent screen lineup of LG Display, a liquid crystal panel manufacturer owned by LG Group in South Korea, will be displayed at the 2022 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to be held from January 5 to 8 next year.

Its transparent screen product forms include OLED display cabinets, shopping windows, display glass and smart glass. These screens all consist of the same 55-inch 1080p transparent OLED panel with a transparency of 40%. LG Display spokesman Jean Lee said it was the company's 8th generation display manufacturing process, focusing on the production of large-size LCD TV panels.

Unlike electronics maker LG Electronics, LG Display simply creates concepts for other companies that can be adopted and introduced to the market.

LG Displays has been in the field of transparent displays for some time, showing its first flexible transparent screen in 2014 and, more recently, a transparent TV screen mounted at the foot of the bed. In addition to the transparent screen, the company also showed off its half-moon shaped chair with a built-in OLED screen at CES 2021.

First, transparent screen window, add cool special effects to the product

A transparent OLED display is attached to a sleek wooden shelf that, when placed in front of a physical product, looks like it can create a futuristic shopping experience. Shopping windows add an overlay to the items behind, meaning salespeople can add graphics to highlight certain parts of their products, and even use displays to provide sleek visuals.

As shown in the image below, the halo effect is added around the perfume bottle displayed in the middle, so that our attention is suddenly drawn to the past.

LG Display's display glass, another model focused on commercial use, consists of four 55-inch transparent OLED displays that can be used to display products in a showcase window where salespeople can add numbers, text, window stickers, and more, and can be changed at any time.

Second, open the TV program and turn off the world famous painting

Shopping windows are designed for "luxury" department stores, and OLED display cases are for families.

The OLED display cabinet displayed by LG, as shown in the image below, consists of two 55-inch transparent OLED displays, which are stacked on top of each other and have a shelf at the top. LG Display says this display cabinet is ideal for living rooms, it can display different pictures on two screens at the same time, such as artwork or TV programs, and it can always turn on the display mode.

If a work of art is on display, the painting on the screen can be placed there like a real painting, while blending into the wall behind it. In fact, since the screen is transparent, you can also place a painting behind the screen, and when the screen is off, you can see the painting behind the screen.

Not only that, but LG Display also designed a motorized film made of opaque materials that can scroll down like a projector screen, making the images it displays more vivid, while the images viewed on the transparent screen sometimes look like ghosts. The base of this screen also contains some electronic devices, and the screen uses a standard HDMI input interface to transmit TV signals.

LG Display said it is ready to help customers produce some of these displays as needed. "If any of our customers need it, we can provide OLED display cases." LG show spokesman Jean Lee told Foreign Media The Verge and said they were ready for production.

Conclusion: LG transparent screen commercialization exploration is further

LG display will soon show these screens, covering the home, shopping malls, subways and other environments, transparent OLED screen does not change the internal structure of the home at the same time, but also very futuristic. Moreover, the OLED screen in the mall can also add illustrations and text, making the product display more vivid.
