The calligrapher and painter Wen Wei, due to the influence of his family, showed his talent for painting since childhood, enlightened by his father, who was full of poetry and books, learned ink danqing at the age of four, and studied calligraphy at the age of five. After entering the traditional painting education, Danqing has an orderly vein and has been immersed in many years.

"Chinese paintings shed pen and ink without it". The spirit of pen and ink focuses on the pursuit of the heart. In Wen Wei's view, traditional ink painting contains a deep Chinese philosophy, and she diligently seeks to return to tradition. Classics such as "Book Genealogy", "Shi Tao Painting Quotations", "Tang Poems", "Song Ci", "Ancient Literature Guanzhi" and so on accompany Wen Wei around, famous sayings and aphorisms, sometimes in the mouth, sometimes in the chest, sometimes in the pen.

"Gu Ben" is the premise, and her freehand ink paintings are based on a thorough understanding of the essence of her predecessors. "Inheritance" is the source of innovation in traditional art.

Chinese painting emphasizes "the creation of foreign teachers, the source of the heart". Wen Wei admired the truth he had learned from the books of his predecessors in his feet. For decades, Wen Wei had crossed the north and returned to the north, had talked with the mountains and rivers, and had talked freely with Hongru. The mutual blending of people and art can withstand the scrutiny of time, in exchange for that momentary "epiphany". Wen Wei explores the new era in the traditional laws.

In this recent batch of freehand sketches, she sees the big with the small, and the less is always more. A few strokes, to one to ten. Because she has a keen intuition for water stun ink, the brush in her hand walks on raw rice paper, which can achieve free control. Within the scale, the pen and ink line must be done, and the must be stopped, as Po Gong said, "like the spring of the earth". Pen, ink, paper, and color are all dead things, turning dead things into living things, interpreting this process into a visible, perceptible, and imaginable rhythm, and then elevating it to a "realm". In Wen Wei's kind of paintings, I can always feel: fat, round and blunt without losing its smoothness and sharpness.

On the first day of 2022, painter Wen Wei will join you in the hall of Rongbaozhai in Beijing to listen to every interesting soul and burst out to appreciate the art. On the first day of 2022, Beijing Rongbaozhai, we are not seen or scattered.

Foreword to the exhibition

Wen Wei, calligrapher and painter. Due to the influence of his family, he showed his talent for painting from an early age, enlightened by his father, who was full of poetry, learned ink and Danqing at the age of four, and studied calligraphy at the age of five. After graduating from university, he worshipped Cui Ruzhuo as a teacher and a disciple. He received a doctorate degree in landscape painting research from the China Academy of Art, and is currently the secretary general of the Chinese Painting Research Institute of the Forbidden City Academy, and is employed as a part-time professor of Nankai University and Tianjin University.

Wen Wei does not like to be ostentatious, does not talk emptyly, is not moved by the noisy and impetuous, and is eager to make quick profits, devotes himself to the study of Chinese painting and calligraphy, specializes in contemplation, inherits tradition, dares to make breakthroughs, and has a high attainment in freehand landscapes, ladies and calligraphy. She visited the famous mountains of China, seeking inspiration and breakthroughs in creation, which made her creations advance by leaps and bounds. In this exhibition, her artistic thinking over the years can be concentrated: whether it is her representative huge landscape, or the magnificent wild cursive calligraphy, or the beautiful lines and flexible brush strokes of the lady paintings, it is refreshing. This extremely talented and persistent artist has climbed to a new level on the road of artistic creation.

Wen Wei's works are quite popular in the art market at home and abroad, and have repeatedly achieved good results in domestic auctions such as Beijing Hanhai, Beijing Poly, Hong Kong Poly, Xiling Auction, jiangsu Phoenix Auction and so on.
