Liao Rongkun (1903-1933), a native of Macheng, Hubei Province, joined the Party in 1926, was the commander of the 32nd Regiment of the 11th Division of the Red 4th Army, the commander of the Red 28th Army, the deputy commander of the Red 25th Army and the commander of the 73rd Division, etc. In May 1933, he was framed in the "purge of rebellion" and mistakenly killed at Longwang Mountain in Huang'an (now Hong'an) County, and was later posthumously recognized as a martyr.

On November 16, 1934, the Red 25th Army was renamed the 2nd Advance Detachment of the Anti-Japanese Resistance in the North, and began the Western Expedition to the North, reaching Luonan, Shaanxi in December, and creating the Eyu-Shaanxi Su District.
