Why did Yao Qisheng play to Kangxi: negotiations are far less real than wars

The historical Kangxi Dynasty has always advocated a "peaceful" solution to the Taiwan issue.

As early as the period of the Aobai dictatorship, the Qing Dynasty held peace talks with the Zheng clique entrenched in Taiwan, but the leader of the Zheng clique, Zheng Jing, always adhered to the principle of not shaving his hair and not landing on the shore, making the peace talks fruitless. At the same time, the Qing Dynasty had failed in three previous large-scale naval battles with Taiwan, and had to temporarily shelve the Taiwan issue.

In the eighth year of the Kangxi Dynasty (1669), the Kangxi Emperor began to truly grasp the power, and also put the settlement of the Taiwan issue and the recovery of Taiwan on the agenda.

All along, the Kangxi Emperor insisted on settling the Taiwan issue through peace talks, and for this reason, the Kangxi Emperor also made a huge concession, allowing "allowing the Zheng clan to seal the domain and guard Taiwan", retaining his title of King of Yanping, and sending Mingzhu, the minister of the Upper Study Who also advocated peace talks with the Zheng clique in Taiwan, to negotiate.

Zheng Jing made concessions at the Kangxi Emperor, and then put forward new conditions for "gaining inches":

"If you can follow the example of the DPRK, do not cut your hair, call the subject a tribute, and respect the meaning of the great thing, then you can do it."

Zheng Jing advocated settling the Taiwan issue according to the Korean example in order to create a de facto "independence" situation in Taiwan, which was strongly opposed by the Kangxi Emperor.

"If Zheng Jing is nostalgic for Taiwan and does not want to abandon it, he can also do whatever he wants." As for not shaving the hair of north Korea, it is not convenient to accept the idea of paying tribute and surrendering. The Korean system has never been a foreign country, and Zheng Jing is a Chinese person."

This also made Kangxi's plan for "peaceful reunification" fail again.

After this, there was the "San Fan Rebellion" headed by Wu Sangui, and Zheng sent an army to join Geng Jingzhong, the king of Jingnan who had raised an army in Fujian, and began to attack the southeast coastal areas.

After this, the Kangxi Emperor again sent Mingzhu to negotiate with Zheng Jing, who still insisted on his previous proposal to follow the example of Korea, causing the peace talks to break down again.

Twenty years after this (1681), the same year that the Kangxi Emperor completely quelled the "San Fan Rebellion", Zheng Jing died and was succeeded by his son Zheng Ketuan, and at this time, Kangxi and the Qing Dynasty finally freed up their hands to concentrate on solving the Taiwan problem.

At this time, Yao Qisheng resolutely advocated the use of force to resolve the Taiwan issue, which was also a reasonable proposal to Kangxi based on the situation at that time.

In the seventeenth year of the Kangxi Dynasty (1678), Yao Qisheng was promoted by Kangxi to the governor of Fujian, with full responsibility for platform affairs, during which Yao Qisheng on the one hand raised military supplies and prepared for the platform of force, on the other hand, while resisting the attack of the Zheng clique, he also carried out this disintegration within the Taiwan ruling clique. Prior to this, Yao Qisheng had been in Fujian for a long time, and it can be said that he was very familiar with the situation in the Taiwan Strait and the Zheng clique, and it was based on this situation that Yao Qisheng would propose a platform for force to Kangxi Shangshu.

First of all, the strength of Taiwan's Zheng Group is already declining, and it is not as good as before.

After Zheng Chenggong's death, Zheng Jing engaged in an internal fire merger in order to compete for the right to rule; after Zheng Jing's death, there was another armed conflict within the Zheng clique. After these two infighting, the strength of the Zheng clique has been greatly weakened, and its internal separation has been centrifugal, and the defection of the Wenchen warlords to the Qing Dynasty has continued to occur, and in Yao Qisheng's view, it has been unable to cope with the offensive of the Qing Dynasty.

Secondly, the strength of the sailors of the Qing Dynasty is no longer what it used to be, and its strength has surpassed that of the Zheng Group.

Previously, due to the lack of equipment and combat experience of the marine division, it was a small victory and a lot of defeat in the naval battle of the Zheng clique, but after several years of development, the introduction of new warships and the training of Shi Lang, the strength of the Daqingshui Division had surpassed that of the Taiwan Marine Division, and then grasped the initiative on the battlefield.

Third, kangxi's previous peace talks have failed.

This also shows that Taiwan's Cheng clique has been trying in vain to hold on to an isolated island in order to seek self-reliance, and in such a situation, it is impossible to recover Taiwan without military conquest.

It is precisely for this reason that Yao Qisheng believes that the armed platform is the best way to resolve the Taiwan issue under the circumstances.

Although for the Kangxi platform, Yao Qisheng was hard at work, yao Qisheng's final ending was very bleak.

The reason why Yao Qisheng has such an ending is because the platform master he is trying to sponsor will be Shi Lang's "favor will revenge".

At first, there was a strong opposition to Shi Lang's platform for leading troops, and it was Yao Qisheng who used his entire life as a guarantee that the Kangxi Emperor finally decided to let Shi Lang lead the troop platform.

However, Shi Lang did not thank Yao Qisheng, on the contrary, he was worried that Yao Qisheng would compete with him for the merits of the platform, and then neglected to the Kangxi Emperor, asking for the "two-person collaborative platform" to be changed to his own "one-man dictatorship" and lead the army to recover Taiwan alone, and the Kangxi Emperor agreed to the overall situation of the platform.

Not only that, just after Shi Lang led his troops to conquer Penghu and forced the Zheng clique to surrender, Shi Lang impeached Yao Qisheng to the Kangxi Emperor for unfavorable support and hindered the platform, at the same time, many officials in the DPRK and China echoed and also impeached Yao Qisheng.

In this way, all the credit for the recovery of Taiwan fell to Shi Lang, who was also rewarded by the Kangxi Emperor. Yao Qisheng, who recommended Shi Lang and actively dispatched support for the army platform, did not get too many rewards. In the twenty-second year of the Kangxi Dynasty (1683), Yao Qisheng died of hardship and illness at the age of sixty.
