Han Xiaomin: China will surely cultivate local world-class automotive semiconductor companies

Jiwei Network news, on December 24, under the guidance of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology and the Pudong New Area Science and Technology Commission, hosted by the China Semiconductor Investment Alliance, hosted by Zhangjiang Hi-Tech, Aiji Micro, and co-organized by SAIC Motor, han Xiaomin, general manager of aiji micro consulting business department, delivered a keynote speech on "Greeting the Automotive Era", and said that in the case of low self-sufficiency rate and global lack of cores, China's automotive semiconductor industry has a long way to go, but based on a series of advantages and favorable factors, It will surely cultivate local world-class automotive semiconductor companies.

Han Xiaomin: China will surely cultivate local world-class automotive semiconductor companies

Han Xiaomin, General Manager of Aiji Micro Consulting Business Department

Han Xiaomin said that at present, the global technology industry has iterated from the PC era to the era of smart phones & mobile Internet, and a new era of automobiles is coming. In the past decade, the entire semiconductor industry or electronics industry has been driven by the smartphone industry. However, since the beginning of 2018, the global smartphone market has entered a relatively stagflated state, and the current shipment volume is stable in the range of 1.5-2 billion units. In this regard, the industry now has a consensus that in the next 5-10 years or longer, the core driving force of the entire ICT industry, especially the semiconductor industry, will be the development of new energy vehicles and intelligent automotive industries. ”

In this regard, Han Xiaomin said as a representative of domestic related industries that the market value of Sina and Sohu in the PC era is now below 3 billion US dollars, while the market value of Jingdong and Meituan in the mobile Internet era is more than 100 billion US dollars. However, it should be noted that the market value of Ningde in the new automobile era has reached 220 billion US dollars, and the market value of Weilai is close to 50 billion US dollars. It can be seen that the market's recognition of new energy vehicles is very high, and many new energy vehicle manufacturers have very optimistic shipments.

In the era of new automobiles dominated by new energy vehicles, countries around the world want to seize this unprecedented historical opportunity and actively formulate many policies and regulations to promote industrial development. These include the U.S. "Securing U.S. Leadership in Autonomous Vehicle Technology: Autonomous Vehicle 4.0", the European Union's "Road to Automated Mobility: The EU's Future Mobility Strategy", the 2030 Fully Autonomous Driving Society, Japan's "National Autonomous Driving R&D Program", and China's "National Autonomous Driving R&D Plan". But as the two core positions of the traditional automobile industry, Europe and Japan are not as fast as China and the United States.

In recent years, although China's new energy automobile industry has experienced some struggles, thanks to the government's vigorous promotion and various policy support, the current development is very rapid, and some independent car companies have entered the mainstream automobile market. According to the data, from January to November 2021, China's automobile sales were 23.489 million units, an increase of 4.5% year-on-year and an increase of 1.5% over 2019. In contrast, China's new energy vehicle sales in the same period were 2.99 million units, a sharp increase of 170% year-on-year, and the market penetration rate reached 12.7%, of which nearly 18% in November. At the same time, the sales volume of China's own brand passenger cars accounted for 46.6%, while new energy vehicles continued to heat up.

For the development trend of the industry, Han Xiaomin said, "The global automotive industry is developing in the three directions of electrification, intelligence and networking, which will give birth to more and more new energy vehicles and intelligent networked vehicles." Under this historical opportunity, new energy vehicles will accelerate the development of the entire industry chain such as ADAS/autonomous driving, V2X, power devices, high-performance computing, networked chips, battery management, and sensors. Based on this, it is expected that the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in China will exceed 40% in 2025, while the size of the automotive semiconductor market will reach half of that of communications (mobile phones).

Han Xiaomin: China will surely cultivate local world-class automotive semiconductor companies

However, Han Xiaomin also pointed out that China's automotive semiconductor industry still has a long way to go, especially in the case of low self-sufficiency rate and global core shortage. Therefore, domestic automobile factories should cultivate more independent chip suppliers. Among the world's top 25 automotive semiconductor companies released by gartner, there are 7 in Europe, 8 in the United States, 9 in Japan, and only 1 in China. At the same time, domestic automotive semiconductor companies are also facing severe challenges, including Bosch and Denso occupying the Advantage of Tier 1 attributes, and Intel, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, etc. are vigorously deploying in the field of intelligent vehicles by providing core chips.

Although the overall situation is not very optimistic, the layout of domestic suppliers in the automotive field has achieved results, such as entering the forefront of the world in the automotive power semiconductor supply chain. According to the report of the top 100 global automotive electronics suppliers released by Automotive News, there are 8 local companies in China. However, these companies are mainly concentrated in non-electronic and electrical fields such as tires, structural parts, and trim parts, and there are only 3 related to electronic and electrical. However, in the future, driven by the development of new energy vehicles and the demand for supply chains by domestic brands, China's local automobile and Tier-1 and semiconductor companies will achieve rapid improvement.

Based on this, China's new energy automobile industry and industrial chain enterprises have great potential in the future. Han Xiaomin said, "China has the world's largest automobile consumer market, the world's most active automotive start-ups, the most perfect infrastructure construction and the willingness to maintain this advantage, a large user group with high acceptance of new technologies and new products, and a determination to continue to invest in the development of the semiconductor industry, and will surely cultivate local world-class automotive semiconductor companies." ”
