Our army and the US army fought a total of four battles at the north hill of Seokdandong, and although the duration was short, it was of great significance.
In the first three battles, our army did not cling to the north hill of Shih Da Dong, because at that time, the strategy of the volunteer army was to mainly consume the enemy, first luring the US troops to attack the north hill of Shi Da Dong, and then the volunteer army used rocket artillery to strike at the attacking US troops, once again attracting the US troops to attack the north hill of Shi Da Dong. In the three battles, the American army suffered heavy casualties and did not dare to easily attack the north mountain of Shih Da Dong. The commander of the 67th Division, who was in charge of the main attack, proposed a strategy of building a tunnel on the hillside and approaching the American position through the tunnel, and the American army did not expect that the volunteer army would enter its position by digging tunnels. At this time, the most serious problem appeared, that is, how to resist the artillery bombardment of the US army, our army directly withdrew to the dug tunnel, waiting for the US army to bomb, it can be said that in the US bombing, no one in our army was injured. When the Americans counterattacked, the Volunteers ordered rockets in the rear to bombard the Americans. After 6 days and nights of fighting between the two sides, our army suffered more than 1,800 casualties and annihilated more than 3,500 American troops, successfully repelling the American troops.
In this battle, there were many combat heroes, such as Xu Jiapeng, in the night of July 6, our army encountered the enemy bunker fire attack, the advance was blocked, the troops who took on the assault task decided to attack the bunker in groups, and successively pulled out multiple enemy bunkers. When continuing to break through, it was found that there was a bunker directly above, and the heavy machine gun fire of the US army was very fierce, and for a while the commandos did not know how to be good, and many soldiers were unfortunately killed. After saying that, he picked up the explosive package in Sun Qiulun's hand and rushed to the bunker with enemy fire, and when he was about 10 meters away from the enemy bunker, Xu Jiapeng's legs were injured and he fell on the hillside. Xu Jiapeng did not stop the pace of the charge, he crawled to the bunker with both hands, reached the enemy bunker with difficulty, pulled open the explosive package and waited for the explosion. Who knew that the explosive pack had gone through the rain and failed to explode. Seeing that the enemy's machine guns were still spewing flames, Xu Jiapeng wanted to rush into the bunker and fight for the opportunity to charge for his comrades, but the enemy's bunker was built in the ditch, and there was no way to enter.
Xu Jiapeng remembered Huang Jiguang, who had died before, and used his last strength to climb up and pounce on the firing hole of the bunker, due to excessive force, Xu Jiapeng's upper body had already drilled into the enemy's shooting hole, seizing the opportunity for his comrades to attack.
