The 2021 Henan Archaeological Work Achievements Exchange Meeting was held in Nanyang

On December 17, in order to exchange and display the new achievements of archaeology and cultural relics protection this year, the "2021 Henan Archaeological Work Achievements Exchange Meeting" was held in Nanyang under the guidance of the Henan Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau, sponsored by the Provincial Cultural Relics and Archaeology Society, undertaken by the Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, and co-organized by the Nanyang Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism and the Nanyang Municipal Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology. Archaeologists and scholars from all over the province exchanged new discoveries and new research results in the province's archaeological work in the past year.

In 2021, the provincial cultural relics and archaeology research units, universities and the Henan team of the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences completed a series of active archaeological excavations and the protection of cultural relics in capital construction. In particular, major research projects in "Archaeological China" such as "Xia Culture Research" and "Research on the Civilization Process of the Central Plains" have made remarkable achievements. In 8 active archaeological excavation projects, including Yanshi Erlitou, Dengfeng Wangchenggang, Yuzhou Wadian, Xinmi Ancient City Village, Gongyi Shaochai, Xinmi Xinzhong, Yexian Yuzhuang Ruins, and Gucheng Village, a number of projects have obtained major archaeological discoveries. There are also many highlights of the six active archaeological projects of the "Archaeological China and Central Plains Civilization Process Research Project" such as the Beiyangping Site, Yangshao Village Site, Suyang Ruins, Shuanghuashu Ruins, Dahe Village Ruins, and Huangshan Ruins. At the same time, there are also new breakthroughs in the archaeological research of cave temples. In addition, our province has also successfully held the "Yangshao Cultural Discovery and The Centenary Commemoration conference of the Birth of Modern Chinese Archaeology".

With the deepening of archaeological work, the cultural relics team in the province is growing day by day, and there are more and more projects for cultural relics exploration and archaeological excavation. According to statistics, in 2016, the total number of archaeological excavation projects approved by various archaeological excavation units in Henan was 141, 308 in 2020, and it is expected to exceed 340 in 2021. Our province also cooperated with the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences to hold a "Xia Culture Archaeological Research" seminar at the Erlitou site; entrusted the Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology to rely on Zhengzhou Shangcheng, Wangchenggang, Wadian and other sites to hold the 2021 Henan Provincial Field Archaeology Technician Training Class; held the 2021 Annual Cultural Relics Exploration Technician Training Class, and continued to train grass-roots archaeological business personnel for the archaeological exploration, excavation and research work in our province. These measures will lay a solid foundation for the future development of archaeology in our province.
