Qingxu Fox Temple, What exactly are the Ming and Qing murals painted?
Unfortunately, this temple I did go, but the administrator did not open the door, the mural in the front hall can be faintly seen a little, the shooting is not comprehensive, everyone made up a look, came back and checked the relevant literature records, found that everyone knows very little.
Qingxu Fox Temple, the fame is not very big, but in Qingxu County is also the oldest wooden ancient building, it was built in the Song Dynasty, the current remnants of the Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing four dynasties buildings, due to the repeated reconstruction of the past, the style is more mixed, it is difficult to accurately distinguish. In addition, there are still 18 ancient inscriptions and murals of the Ming and Qing dynasties in the temple, which are being adjusted after renovation and are looking forward to opening to the public as soon as possible to make it available to all enthusiasts.
Since it is not open, almost no one knows the true appearance of the murals in the temple, and I have been there after the restoration, and I have sent two pictures to illustrate it.
1, Murals
The murals of the Fox Temple are concentrated in the east and west gables of the dedication hall in the front yard, and there is also a small part in the upper part of the gable, the east wall is the "Hui Gong Tu", and the west wall is the "Bu Yu Tu", a total of about 50 square meters, and the styles of the two walls are different.
2. West Wall
The west gable is "Liying Hou Kai Dragon King Bu Yu Tu", Qing Dynasty brushwork, the Dragon King in front, stepping down riding a raptor that spewed out huge waves, with a night fork holding an umbrella behind it, the Dragon King fierce god evil, eyes wide as chickens, full of hair, hair like steel wire. Behind it there was an old man, Xianfeng Dao Bone, sitting under the umbrella cover, holding the magic instrument of rain in both hands, the sky in the distance was densely clouded, lightning and thunder, it was exactly the scene of Liying Hou Fox And the Dragon King to clean Xu Buyu and moisten all things, the Dragon King was mighty, the fox was rude, and it could be said that they complemented each other.
3. East Wall
The East Gable is not so warm in comparison, at this time the rain is obviously over, the brigade is about to go back to the palace, the fox sat at the end of the road, in a clear sky, the grass seedlings thriving in the joyful and peaceful atmosphere back to the palace, the two murals moved and moved, one opened and closed, very bluntly told the Qingxu people, the whole process of the gods giving rain.
This mural leaves no author behind, it is a purely folk work, with common techniques and eclecticism. From a technical point of view, the murals here are airtight, and the characters of the brigade are filled with wall skin, direct and intense, which is very different from the dense and meticulous of the court painters, and it is very "wild" style.
3. The scene of asking for rain in ancient times
In fact, in the area of Qingyuan City and Terrier Yang, whenever there is a dry season, local officials will bring sacrifices to the Fox Tower Temple to offer sacrifices, and the ceremony of praying for rain is solemn and warm, and a number of strong and strong people are selected from the four miles and eight townships, carrying the shrine in the temple to patrol and go straight up to the Fox Mountain to complete the ceremony. After the rain, I will return to the temple to make a wish, called "Xie Yu".
Generally speaking, the fifteenth day of July in the lunar calendar is the day of worship to the fox god, and it is also the day of praying for rain, the day needs to slaughter a fat sheep, burn incense and pray, the local people are empty alleys, gongs, drums, and social fires are continuous, very lively.
The Qing Dynasty murals of the Fox Tower Temple accurately depict such a very classic ancient scene, which has a relatively special historical cultural relic value.
