The author of this New Year painting
It was the painter Yu Zhouchao in Qingdao
"Traditional Chinese New Year paintings, like a fertile land, deeply attracted me and touched me." When Xiaoqing asked Yu Zhouchao why he insisted on creating New Year paintings, he replied.
Yu Zhouchao is a teacher at Qingdao Binhai College, graduated from Shandong University of Technology majoring in fine arts, good at brush painting, modern New Year painting, etc., and his works have been selected for national art exhibitions for many times.
His story with The New Year Painting begins in 2017.
In 2017, Yu Zhouchao participated in the Jiaonan New Year Painting Class, where he came into contact with new year paintings and has been out of control ever since.
"I suddenly found that these traditional things are so vibrant, and it has too much influence on me deep inside, so that I directly changed my concept of painting and came up with the idea of 'I want to paint a good work'."
Yu Zhouchao did not want to stick to the creation of traditional New Year paintings, he wanted to innovate and create some modern New Year paintings, so in the early days of contact with New Year paintings, he was always looking for creative themes, and after several thoughts, he chose the traditional folk activity "Dragon Boat Racing" as the creative theme.
The first draft of "Dragon Boat Racing" was created in 2017, and after several drafts, it was presented that the final modern New Year painting "Dragon Boat Racing" was presented.

Yu Zhouchao has made bold innovations on the basis of traditional New Year paintings, the color of the picture is very bright, the high saturation of the red, yellow and blue primary colors also make the picture more concise, while the work integrates the aesthetics of oriental culture, boldly integrates the Dunhuang murals and the artistic elements of the national essence Peking Opera in the character modeling and color composition, and the details of each character are different and varied.
"New Year painting is a kind of painting that is both narrative and can express personal emotions, so the work integrates my understanding of the world and my feelings about life." Yu Zhouchao said.
"The success of the work reflects not only Zhou Chao's profound foundation in Chinese painting, but also his deep understanding of the traditional Chinese art of Dunhuang and the national essence of Peking Opera, as well as his in-depth study and research of folk New Year paintings such as Jiaodong New Year Painting, Peach Blossom Wood New Year Painting, Yangliu Youth Painting, and even Japanese Ukiyo-e printmaking." Yu Xianda, honorary director of art theory research of Heilongjiang Artists Association and distinguished researcher of Heilongjiang Art Museum, also gave high praise to Zhou Chao's "Dragon Boat Race".
In Zhou Chao's view, our current prosperity is not achieved overnight, whether it is the accumulation of culture, the accumulation of tradition, or the excellent character of the Chinese nation's diligence, wisdom and bravery, it is passed down from generation to generation, including his works, it is also a process from tradition to modernity.
Yu Zhouchao told Xiaoqing that he would continue to create New Year paintings and stick to the position of New Year paintings, hoping to pass on this fine traditional folk custom of the Chinese nation.
"It is my original intention to excavate, sort out and improve the tradition of New Year painting in a down-to-earth manner."
After reading Yu Zhouchao's New Year painting, Xiaoqingcai deeply understood what is called "national, is the world", and China's excellent traditional culture needs to be inherited and innovation!
