In this work, "Lotus Water Duck" presents Qi Baishi's unique painting characteristics. As the main body of the picture, the two ducks originate from the Eight Great Relics, but under his brush, they show different forms, fat, thin and thin, especially the ducklings have a more life-like atmosphere, as if they are swimming in the real lotus pond, exuding a peaceful atmosphere.
In his later years, Qi Baishi was very determined to reform his painting style. According to rumors, he once expressed his feelings for Huang Shen's album in the inscription, realizing that his paintings were too rigid and lacking in vitality, so he decided to change the way he created from that day. He even re-emphasized his determination to change his painting style in the inscription of a friend's painting, and said that whether he suffered in this revolution or not, he did not want others to pity him, but regarded it as a kind of fulfillment.
This work partially demonstrates Qi Baishi's delicate brushwork and control of the atmosphere of the picture. Every detail has been carefully carved, showing the artist's creative enthusiasm and skill level in his old age.
