Qingwei Lou | a daily appreciation of Huang Ji's "Maitreya Buddha Statue"

Huang Ji (1925-1997) was a representative figure of the Chang'an School, a master of Chinese painting, a social activist and a collector. He is good at figure painting and animal painting, especially for painting Xinjiang characters and donkeys. He is good at using sketching expression to grasp the vivid form of the characters, the lines are smooth, the brushwork is informal, the style is unrestrained, and the works are full of rich life atmosphere.

In this "Statue of Maitreya Buddha", he combines Western sketching with Chinese brush and ink, and his new spirit, artistic conception and technique have opened up a new era of Chinese ink painting and made up for the drawbacks brought about by strict painting realism.
