Born in 1968, Tong Xiaorui is a native of Wenshan Village, Zixi Township, Leadshan County, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province. In the early 90s of last century, Zixi Township took the lead in large-scale planting of red bud taro. With a keen market vision and the market sales experience accumulated in the purchase and sale of agricultural and sideline products in the past, Tong Xiaorui concluded that the development of the red bud taro industry will definitely be able to create a unique agricultural economy in Zixi Township. Since then, Tong Xiaorui has embarked on the entrepreneurial road of planting and selling red bud taro, and has been doing it for more than 30 years.
During this period, Tong Xiaorui went to Wuhan, Hubei and other places, cooking and selling red bud taro in street stalls, hoping to open the market, but finally failed. In 1992, Tong Xiaorui took the red bud taro to Shanghai, hoping to find a new way out of the red bud taro there. In order to save money, he stayed in a small hostel for a few yuan a night at night, and during the day he took samples of red bud taro to a vegetable market and vegetable wholesale market. The hard work paid off, at that time it was one of the largest vegetable wholesale markets in Shanghai - Shanghai Zhenru Market (the predecessor of the current Shanghai Jiangqiao Wholesale Market), after his efforts and repeated negotiations, the market finally agreed to transport the red bud taro from Zixi Township to the market for trial sales.
The sales channel has been opened, but how to sell has become a problem. In Shanghai Zhenru market, there are more than 60 people selling taro at the same time in the lead mountain, and the phenomenon of mutual price reduction is serious, the market sells dozens of tons of goods, and hundreds of tons of goods must be sent here, resulting in no way to sell at a good price, and it has to be cheap if it is not cheap. As a result, Tong Xiaorui organized 27 large red bud taro planters and distributors to establish the Ziwen Vegetable Professional Cooperative in Leadshan County, which implements one-stop service of planting, technology, acquisition, packaging and circulation. It also arranged special personnel to be stationed in the market outside the province to understand the market situation in a timely manner, dynamically adjust the supply volume, and created its own "Yundingfeng" brand, which effectively solved the problem of market competition. The red bud taro produced by the base sells well in Shanghai, Zhejiang, Guangzhou and other large and medium-sized cities, with an annual sales of more than 10,000 tons of red bud taro.
In 2016, Ziwen Vegetable Professional Cooperative invested in the construction of Zixi Township Red Bud Taro and Agricultural Products Trading Center, expanding its business scope to other agricultural and sideline products. At the beginning of its establishment, the cooperative had 27 members, and now it has grown to more than 500 households, and the local villagers have increased their income through the cooperative.
Tong Xiaorui plans to further develop deep-processed products with red bud taro as raw materials, so that Zixi Township red bud taro can be sold farther and more recognized by the market.
