U.S. develops new software tool to "predict China's reaction to U.S. actions"

Using software tools to calculate the "strategic friction" between China and the United States, what calculation is the US military playing?

According to Reuters reported on the 15th, the MILITARY commanders of the US military in the Pacific region designed a new software tool to predict the Chinese government's response to the US actions in the region, which may include US arms sales in the region, US-backed military actions, and US parliamentarians visiting Taiwan. The report quoted a U.S. Defense Department official as saying that this would ensure that the relevant U.S. actions would not inadvertently annoy China.

On the 14th, Hawaii, US Deputy Secretary of Defense Catherine Hicks held a meeting with senior officials of the US Indo-Pacific Command and other people to discuss

"This computer-operated software system will help the Pentagon predict whether certain actions [of the United States] will provoke a strong reaction from the Chinese side." A series of data from the beginning of 2020 will serve as a basis for the software's analysis to assess major activities affecting U.S.-China relations.

The report also quoted a US Defense Department official as saying that the software tool was actually calculating the "strategic friction" between the two countries. Reuters mentioned the passage of a US-Canadian warship through the Taiwan Strait in October this year, to which the Chinese Foreign Ministry responded for the first time, saying that this was "a deliberate interference and sabotage of regional peace and stability, which the international community can clearly see." The U.S. official said the incident and similar actions have increased the demand for the software to ensure that U.S. actions do not inadvertently annoy China.

"Although the U.S.-China relationship is already at a low point, this software tool provides visibility into a range of actions [from the United States]." Reuters wrote. U.S. officials said the software would further help the U.S. government assess its action plan for the next four months in advance, the report said.

For some time now, the US military has frequently stirred up trouble in China's peripheral areas and is the main responsible party for regional tensions. In response, Wu Qian, spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of National Defense, said that the US side has frequently sent ships and planes to the sea and airspace around China to promote regional militarization and threaten regional peace and stability.
