BMW Group upgrades Its China strategy to start production of the Pure Electric 3 Series in Shenyang next year

On December 16, the BMW Group announced the upgrading of China's strategy, maintaining synergy between its corporate strategy and China's development goals, giving priority to the needs of the Chinese market in new product development based on the principle of "China first", and continuously strengthening the co-creation of win-win results with Chinese partners.

The BMW Group will continue to deepen its "China First" strategy in the process of electrification. Dr. Peter, Global Finance Director of BMW Group, said that in 2022, BMW Group will welcome the opening of three new or upgraded plants in Shenyang and Zhangjiagang, and put into production in Shenyang pure electric 3 series.

It is understood that this year's BMW iX3 in the first full sales year is expected to sell up to 20,000 vehicles, in 2022, the BMW brand will launch 5 pure electric models in China, including the innovative BMW iX, innovative BMW i4, and pure electric BMW 3 series produced in Shenyang. In addition, a pure electric flagship model will also be unveiled in the next year. By the end of 2023, the BMW Group will offer around 13 pure electric products in the Chinese market.

At the same time, we will strengthen the partnership with domestic outstanding battery companies, energy companies and high-tech enterprises, jointly develop the upstream and downstream industrial chain of green electric mobility, and enhance our comprehensive strength in electric vehicle research and development, production and service.

According to reports, in 2017, BMW Brilliance established a power battery center, and in 2020, the second phase of the project has been completed, and the cumulative production of power batteries has exceeded 100,000 units. By the end of 2021, 360,000 public charging piles will be networked by BMW.

In terms of sales and service network, BMW will continue to upgrade, and in 2022, BMW will pilot the "BMW i Experience Store" with dealers in the city center.

2025 will be an important juncture in BMW's strategic transformation, with the release of "next-generation" models with completely redesigned IT and software architectures, a new generation of high-performance electric drive systems and batteries, and a new sustainable concept throughout the vehicle lifecycle.

It is understood that in the development process of the "new generation", the specific needs of the Chinese market will still be placed in the first place, and by 2025, a quarter of the BMW Group's sales in the Chinese market will be pure electric vehicles.
