So who is this sacred person who made this legend? It was Tong Linge, who was then the deputy commander of the 29th Army. In January 1933, Tong Linge, who had emerged in the Zhifeng War, was ordered to march east and assemble east of Beiping, and the Great Wall War of Resistance broke out.

Such a feat was almost mythical under the great victory of the Great Wall Resistance, and the "big knife team" also became an important label for the Twenty-ninth Army.

After the outbreak of the "Qiqi Lugou Bridge Incident" in 1937, the Twenty-ninth Army led by Tong Linge was excited, and Tong Linge made a generous statement at the military conference in Nanyuan: "The provocation will be inevitable, and my generation will bear the brunt of it." The dead are glorious, and the thieves are disgraced. Honor and disgrace are lighter than those who belong to one person, but those who are tied to the country and the nation are heavy, and the country is difficult, and soldiers should be wrapped in a corpse and repay the country with death. During the period of sitting in Nanyuan, Tong's father was seriously ill, and the family repeatedly urged Tong Linge to return to Beiping to serve his father on the side of the sickbed, but he could not bear to withdraw from the war situation, and said: "At the moment of the great enemy, when this move is filial piety and loyalty, I cannot personally serve the soup medicine, please take it for you." The ancients often said that since ancient times, loyalty and filial piety cannot be complete, but Tong Linge personally performed a scene of national war and the feat of giving up the small family to be full of righteousness.

At dawn on July 28, the Japanese army launched a general offensive in the four directions of south, east, north and west, and launched a general attack on the positions near Beiping, and dozens of enemy aircraft participated in the operation. Nanyuan was the main direction of the Heavy Japanese Attack, and the defenders had only about 2,000 people in the Guards Brigade of the Twenty-ninth Army, the Officers' Instruction Regiment, and other units, and they were in an extremely unfavorable situation under the enemy's dense artillery fire. In the face of a strong enemy, Tong Linge and Zhao Dengyu, commander of the 132nd Division, swore to die and commanded their troops to resist heroically. From morning to noon, the battle was fierce, and both sides suffered heavy losses. In the afternoon, Tong Linge and others were ordered to lead their troops to move to the Dahong Gate, and were surrounded by Japanese troops in the middle of the way, and the Division continued to fight with the enemy. While commanding the right wing troops to attack the Japanese, Tong Linge was shot in the leg by enemy machine guns. His subordinates persuaded him to retreat, but he insisted on refusing, saying: "The situation is urgent, the resistance to the enemy is a big matter, and the personal safety is small!" Still leading the troops to fierce battles.
A month after fighting with the Japanese, when the enemy planes were bombing indiscriminately, a piece of flying shrapnel hit him in the head during the fierce battle, bleeding too much, so that he was heroically martyred. At only 45 years old, Tong Linge, a famous anti-Japanese general of the 45-year-old generation, was martyred and fulfilled his oath of repaying the country with death with a loyal and martyr's body.
The sound of gunfire at the Lugou Bridge opened the prelude to the all-out war of resistance against the Chinese people, and Tong Linge was the first senior general martyred in the War of Resistance Against Japan. On September 14, 2009, Tong Linge was named one of the 100 heroic models who made outstanding contributions to the founding of New China.
