Mr. and Mrs. Lu Zhiying

In 1927, after the "April 12" counter-revolutionary coup, Lu Zhiying, under the pseudonym Zhou Zhikun, lurked in De'an, Jiangxi, and served as the chief of staff of the colonel of the 8th Cavalry Brigade of the local garrison. In the same year, when the revolutionary comrade Zhang Yumin (female) in Shanghai led more than 10 comrades to move to De'an, Jiangxi, he was arrested by the Eighth Cavalry Brigade of the Nationalist Army, and Tang Silin, commander of the 16th Regiment of the Eighth Cavalry Brigade, wanted to shoot these 10 comrades. At the most critical moment, Lu Zhiying rushed to the legal field and shot Tang Silin to save Zhang Yumin and others, and led 500 cavalry to revolt, known as the De'an Uprising.

In August 1928, Lu Zhiying was ordered to organize a student movement in Beiping. In Beiping, Lu Zhiying, who has suffered many hardships and shared life and death, and Zhang Yumin, who is 9 years older than him, is happily married. They held a simple wedding in Beiping, and Zhou Enlai personally sent a pair of Mandarin ducks to play with the water pillows as a congratulatory gift, and wished the couple to grow old with white heads, support each other, and revolutionize to the end.

In 1931, Lu Zhiying was sent to Xi'an by Premier Zhou to lurk around Yang Hucheng to engage in military movement work. In 1934, Lu Zhiying and his wife were sent to Jiangxi to engage in underground work, and Lu Zhiying, alias Lu Yusheng, infiltrated the headquarters of Mo Xiong, the commander of the De'an Security Command, and became Mo Xiong's confidant. Mo Xiong trusted Lu Zhiying very much, and almost any secret would be given to him.

In De'an, Lu Zhiying received the "iron barrel plan" of the Nationalist army to mobilize a million troops to encircle and suppress the Red Army, Lu Zhiying wrote the information in 4 student dictionaries and sent it to Jinggangshan, so the Red Army immediately began to break through and move, and began the "Twenty-five Thousand Mile Long March" before the Nationalist army was surrounded. Chairman Mao once said to Li Kenong:

"The Red Army was able to survive, and Lu Zhiying's contribution was indispensable!"

The Long March of the Red Army

After the Red Army broke through, Sun Cannon, the leader of Mo Xiong's anti-rape brigade, sensed Lu Zhiying's "abnormality." Sun Dacang gathered his men and horses to immediately attack the residence of Lu Zhiying and his wife, and Lu Zhiying and his wife and more than 10 comrades immediately hid in the mountains. But just as Sun Dacang and his men were walking through the woods where they were hiding, the baby in the arms of Lu Zhiying's wife, Zhang Yumin, began to cry.

At this most critical moment, Lu Zhiying snatched the baby and ran towards a mountain beam. He was so fierce that he hung his son, who had just been born a few months ago, on a sour date tree. Zhang Dacang and the others chased after the sound, and when they saw the baby hanging from the tree, Sun Cannon shot the baby dead. Lu Zhiying and others took the opportunity to leave the mountain forest and move to a safe area. In 1935, Lu Zhiying instigated Mo Xiong in Bijie, allowing the Red Second and Red Sixth Armies to successfully pass Bijie, making great contributions to the victory of the Red Army's Long March.

The starting point of the Long March of the Red Army

In 1937, after the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, Lu Zhiying was ordered to work in Shanghai. In order to work as a secret agent, Lu Zhiying taught himself Japanese, German, English and French, and was fluent in these languages. In Shanghai, Lu Zhiying opened a Hufeng bakery under the pseudonym Zhou Yusheng as a base for liaison and underground activities. Lu Zhiying's Japanese army and puppet army in Shanghai were well mixed up, and the Japanese naval commander in Wusong, BaoDao, enshrined Lu Zhiying as a guest of honor and often entertained Lu Zhiying at home.

BaoDao likes to pull erhu, and Lu Zhiying will teach Baodao erhu to play. One after another, Lu Zhiying became the confidant of Baodao, and Lu Zhiying could enter and leave Baodao's home and the Japanese army headquarters in Wusong as long as he took the erhu. It was precisely because of his unusual relationship with Baodao that Lu Zhiying used merchants in Shanghai to secretly transport a large number of guns, medicines and guangyang for the New Fourth Army. In August 1945, after Japan announced its unconditional surrender, Lu Zhiying lobbied Baodao to hand over all the weapons of the Japanese Navy to him. Lu Zhiying got 60 truckloads of ammunition from BaoDao, which were sent all the way by the Japanese drivers to the vicinity of the Shanghai-Nanjing Highway, and all the equipment was given to the New Fourth Army. After Receiving the ammunition, Commander Chen Yi wrote to Lu Zhiying to express his gratitude.

Supplies delivered

On March 2, 1947, Lu Zhiying's subordinate Zhang Lianfang rebelled, and the Nationalist army secretly arrested Lu Zhiying. In December 1948, Lu Zhiying was secretly executed in Yuhuatai, Nanjing, at the age of 43 when he died. After Lu Zhiying's death, his whereabouts remains are unknown. How exactly did he sacrifice? What happened on that last day? It has since become a mystery.

In early 1951, the Shanghai Public Security Bureau captured Ren Zongbing, a former agent of the Nanjing Headquarters. After interrogation, Ren Zongbing confessed the killing of Lu Zhiying and others, and the truth of Lu Zhiying's sacrifice was finally revealed to the world:

According to Ren Zongbing's account, on December 27, 1948, Pan Lixin, the special agent of the Nanjing Gendarmerie Command, summoned Ren Zongbing, Xia Linkun, Lu Shizun and other backbone cadres and told them that there would be special operations tonight. At about 9 p.m. on the same day, an unknown head of secret service came to the gendarmerie team with Zhou Jianxin, deputy director of the Investigation Department, Yang Xiang, and Li Xia, the leader of the special high group.

Arrested and imprisoned

The head of the secret service immediately issued an order for them to execute the three prisoners immediately. Ren Zongbing, Xia Linkun, and Lu Shizun were in one group, and the six members of the special high group were divided into two other groups, each responsible for executing a prisoner from the detention center. When the first victim was taken to the official room on duty, Lu Shizun choked the victim's throat to prevent the victim from shouting loudly, Yang Xiang and Li Xia covered the victim's mouth with a towel dipped in the potion prepared in advance, ren Zongbing and Xia Linkun pressed the victim's struggling legs, and after 10 minutes, the victim stopped struggling and passed out.

After the incident, Ren Zongbing and Xia Linkun carried the victims to the truck parked in the courtyard and guarded the car. At 12:00, two other victims were also carried onto the truck. Under the cover of night, the car drove straight to the Yuhuatai outside the Zhonghua Gate, and the car stopped on the hillside behind the Baolin Temple of the Yuhuatai. At this time, the pit had long been dug, and there were three thin-skinned coffins side by side in the pit, and they carried the three victims into the coffin, covered the coffin, nailed the nails, buried the soil, and drove back to the team headquarters. Who are these three victims? They are lu zhiying, Chen Zitao, Luo Hemin three red agents.

On June 11, 1951, under the on-site identification of Ren Zongbing, Lu Zhiying's wife Zhang Yumin and son Lu Darong came to the Baolin Temple in Yuhuatai, Nanjing, and carried out the excavation of Lu Zhiying's remains on the spot. In the afternoon of the same day, three coffins were dug up side by side on the hillside behind the Baolin Temple, and when the lid of the coffin was opened, the bodies of the three comrades had decayed, leaving only the skeleton. Judging from the remains of the three comrades, the skeletons were scattered. According to forensic medical analysis, after an hour of burial, the three comrades all woke up in the coffin, and because they could not struggle in the coffin, they eventually suffocated and died.

On the day of the opening of the coffin, the onlookers all shed tears. Lu Zhiying's wife, Zhang Yumin, recognized Lu Zhiying's remains from one of his teeth, and the other two remains were also recognized by relatives. The remains of the three martyrs were immediately taken to the funeral home, where they were re-buried in white cloth wrapped in human form and dressed in liberation suits. Lu Zhiying's son, Lu Dayong, hung an International Peace Commemorative Medal on the chest of Lu Zhiying's remains, and the three martyrs were buried in the Yuhuatai Cemetery. When the excavation of the remains of Lu Zhiying and others was reported to Marshal Chen Yi, Marshal Chen Yi could not stop shedding tears. Because of the revolution, he had very few opportunities to meet with Lu Zhiying, but almost every grain, every bullet, and every western medicine of the New Fourth Army was from Lu Zhiying's hand, and without Lu Zhiying, there would be no victory in the New Fourth Army's war of resistance behind enemy lines.

Lu Zhiying's favorite begonia flowers before his death, a few days before his death, he once said to his wife in a letter:

"After the success of the revolution, the begonia flowers are still there, but the mountains and rivers have been renewed."

In front of Lu Zhiying's tomb, people planted two sticky begonias to comfort the spirit.
