Cultural Classics and the Chinese Communist Party was published

Recently, the book "Cultural Classics and the Chinese Communist Party" was published by China Founder Publishing House and publicly distributed nationwide.

The century-old history of the Communist Party of China is a magnificent history of national awakening, struggle, and rejuvenation, and a history of civilization renewal written by the party under the leadership of the people and has always been written with the people. Over the past hundred years, a large number of politicians, intellectuals, and ordinary party members in the party have closely linked themselves with the classics of human culture through direct reading or indirect contact, absorbed and borrowed all the outstanding achievements of civilization created by mankind, continuously enriched and developed Marxism in practice, and focused on promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of China's outstanding traditional culture, thus providing a steady stream of powerful spiritual power for China's road, national rejuvenation, and civilization renewal.

By combing through the dissemination and reception of Chinese and foreign classic cultural works such as "Shang Shu", "Analects", "Qunshu Zhijiao", "Transmission and Study", "Communist Manifesto", "Dialectics of Nature", and "Theory of Heavenly Speech" in modern China, this book deeply explores the influence of these classic works on the ideological culture and revolutionary practice of Chinese communists, and systematically studies the development context of the combination of the basic principles of Marxism with China's specific reality and with China's excellent traditional culture. From one side, it shows the historical picture of our party constantly promoting the sinification of Marxism and building the "psychology" of communists over the past 100 years.

This book is jointly planned by the Department of Literature and History of the Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (National School of Administration) and the Magazine of The Expo Group, and more than 30 experts and scholars participated in the writing. The book discusses ancient and modern times, new insights emerge one after another, and a series of extensive interdisciplinary interpretations combine cultural liberal arts, profound theoretical speculation and grand historical implications, which can be called a unique style of Chinese Communists' reading history, cultural history, and spiritual history.

Prologue: In the spirit of seeking truth from facts, we will understand the great cultural classics of mankind

Li Wentang

Time is like an arrow. With the labor of words and the piety of thought, we have finally ushered in the glorious historical node of "July 1" in 2021 and ushered in the centenary of the Communist Party of China. The year-long column "Cultural Classics and the Chinese Communist Party" is over, and the new book "Cultural Classics and the Chinese Communist Party" is about to be released.

In July 2020, I wrote this in the opening speech of the "Expo Book":

The Communist Party of China has not only created its own century-old history, but has also continued and created its own classics, which can be described as having a history and a history. No modern political party is as loyal to its own classics as the Chinese Communist Party, regards the classics as sacred, and takes the classics as the source of faith; no faith-oriented organization can turn the classics into history, interpret the classics in history, and reconstruct the classics in practice like the Chinese Communist Party.

Marxist classics are not ideological islands, but the fruits of human civilization, and it is impossible to sever the relationship with human cultural classics. True Marxists are by no means historical nihilists, but living historical beings. He reads, he thinks, he creates. He wandered through the forest of human cultural classics, engaging in dialogue with different cultural traditions and confronting different schools of thought. Without all this ideological activity, we would have become complacent, and in a pool of stagnant water, there would have been no real Marxist atmosphere.

It is precisely because of this that we can read from Marx the classical liberal spirit of Prometheus, Aristotle, and Epicurus, the modern enlightenment spirit of Adam Smith to Hegel, the ethical spirit of Neo-Kantianism from Mao Zedong's writings, the political philosophy from the Book of Shang to Wang Fuzhi, and the traces of civilization in the twenty-four histories.

Without a book foundation, ideological party building is an empty word without a civilization background. Without an open reading mind, it will be impossible to accept the information of the civilized world, enrich itself, and correct itself, just as without deep people's feelings, you will not be able to breathe fresh air from the daily use of the people. Leaving the big cultural tradition is the same as leaving the small tradition, and we will lose the cultural nourishment and ruling foundation for ideological party building, and it is easy to turn living Marxism into rigid dogma.

It is precisely for this reason that a large number of politicians, intellectuals, and ordinary party members and cadres within the Party have, through direct reading or indirect contact, have had one kind or another connection with the classics of human culture, internalized them in their hearts and externalized them in their deeds, enriched and developed Marxism in practice, and written a magnificent century-old history together with the broad masses of the people.

Finally, it should be said that the opening of the column "Cultural Classics and the Chinese Communist Party" a year ago was the result of the active promotion of Dong Shanfeng's editor-in-chief. I am usually busy and have many tasks, and I am very hesitant to host such a column, knowing the difficulties in it, and if there is no enthusiastic drum and call from the editor-in-chief of the mountain, the column will neither start nor persist. As a media person, his cultural enthusiasm and responsibility for the centenary of the founding of the party have made our party school scholars ashamed, and I can't care if this matter is a bit self-sufficient. Such columns are interdisciplinary, there are not many authors of Broadcom cultural classics and party history, fortunately, Dr. Shao Sheng, who is responsible for organizing the manuscript, is very effective, painstakingly seeking, actively organizing, and occasionally professor Wang Xuebin helps, and finally launched dozens of small articles.

Writing according to the basic requirements of a column is actually an academic run-in process. In order to ensure the quality of writing and the efficiency of the manuscript, I require some authors to submit the writing outline first, and I propose revisions before writing, so as to avoid some repetition. After the completion of some first drafts, I put forward specific revision suggestions and suggestions, and the authors can actively cooperate. Therefore, I would like to give special thanks to the many young authors inside and outside the school for joining and understanding, who have enriched, enriched and shaped this column and this book with a spirit of cultural responsibility and cooperation.

I believe that every participating author will feel that this is not easy to write, an interdisciplinary exploration. This is because most scholars who study Western cultural classics rarely dabble in party history and pay less attention to the historical effect of classics in party history, while scholars who study party history rarely study Western cultural classics. So it's not easy for us to find the right author in a short period of time. Although most of the authors involved in the writing have a good foundation and interdisciplinary vision, they are more or less written on the basis of a painstaking desk combing and research. This necessary labor can also be regarded as a kind of pre-sacrifice devotion.

Although the column is over, these articles still have the opportunity to meet a wide range of readers through books. We are deeply fortunate to be grateful for the attention of China Founder Publishing House to this column and to undertake the task of publishing the collection with a high degree of cultural enthusiasm and political responsibility. So, the closing words of my column also became the preface to the new book.

*The author is the editor-in-chief of this book, a member of the School Committee of the Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (National School of Administration), the director of the Department of Literature and History, and a professor, this preface was originally published in the "Expo Books" No. 7, 2021, and has been revised from time to time.
