Appropriation of existing visual materials, close ties to brands and celebrities, extensive reproduction, bright and vivid colors... Even if you don't know Andy Warhol, you've probably seen him create Canned Campbell Soup or Marilyn Monroe. Those who have a certain understanding of contemporary art will surely recognize Warhol's place in art history, and the pop art trend he led still influences the creation of many artists around the world. After the exhibition at UCCA in Beijing, "Becoming Andy Warhol" toured to Shanghai and was specially curated according to the environmental space of UCCA Edge. The exhibition takes a fresh look at the legendary Pop artist's artistic career from nearly 400 works from the pittsburgh's Andy Warhol Art Museum's collection, including photographic and documentary objects that were first exhibited outside the Andy Warhol Art Museum.

In this exhibition, audiences will gain a rare insight into Warhol's youth, his artistic practices as a photographer and experimental filmmaker, and his vibrant social life. For Michael Findlay, a former division director at Christie's and president of the American Art Dealers Association, it was Warhol who transformed the rebellious public image of American artists from "sloppy social outcasts" to "social darlings" who, from a young age, always allowed himself to be in the spotlight. When the first Campbell Soup canned paintings made him famous, he also continued his ambitions to make movies, always going to downtown clubs to mingle with celebrities. "His reputation at the time was a bit like that of an evil flower-clad piper."

Findlay also pointed out that although large-scale reproduction is the strongest impression of Warhol's work, the actual number of works in any series (such as "Flowers" and "Dollar Signs") is actually less than people think. And although there are many patterns Warhol used and used, he will adjust the size, color or picture details to ensure that a single work looks unique. In this exhibition, the audience can intuitively feel this.

This is the largest collection exhibition since the establishment of the Powerlong Art Museum in Shanghai, spanning 100 years, with more than 150 works of art from different countries and regions around the world tracing the history of the road to Chinese art modernization and the progress of Chinese social modernization in the past century. What is rare is that this exhibition breaks the usual exhibition categories, bridging the traditional and modern, Chinese and Western, Chinese tradition and Western modernity, and even the dual tension between Chinese painting and modern painting, and realizing a dialogue across time and space in the same space. All kinds of art lovers can feast their eyes: Chinese painting lovers can see zhang daqian, Qi Baishi, Huang Binhong, Pan Tianshou, Wu Guanzhong, Li Keyan and other works and the latest works of contemporary Chinese painting newcomers; contemporary art lovers can see the works of the most popular artists in the world, several of whom have held solo exhibitions in Shanghai in recent years, such as Yayoi Kusama, KAWS, Alex Katz, Cai Guoqiang...

"Modern Pulse" is the theme of this exhibition. Taking the road of Chinese art modernization spanning a hundred years as a time clue, the exhibition focuses on China's "modernization" demands that began in modern times, and after experiencing a drastic, revolutionary and tortuous process of China's modernization, it is an internalized experience of modernity in contemporary China, and regards it as a self-nature tradition based on the contemporary and looking back at the past in the future.

The first fashion design exhibition "Archipelago" since the opening of the Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai opened on the 1st of this month, which is also the first exhibition of international avant-garde fashion designer Hussein Karajan in China. As an independent designer, Karajan wanders between the costume industry and artistic creation, using the body and the runway as a scene of expression, using installations, images, sounds, and machinery as media to discuss socio-cultural issues such as immigration, identity, and borders. This allows clothing to transcend the function of consumer goods and become a vehicle for some kind of political expression. The exhibition presents more than 130 of Karajan's masterpieces, including collections from important museums and design institutions around the world. Gong Yan, director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai and curator of the exhibition, said that the exhibition is not only to discuss clothing at the level of consumption or craftsmanship, but also to pay attention to how people as living beings are wrapped up in culture and how they are related to nature, science and technology, and society.

Following the opening in Tokyo, Japan in 2019, "Chiharu Shiota: A Fluttering Soul" is the first touring exhibition to Chinese mainland, the largest solo exhibition by Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota to date, which comprehensively reviews her creative career in the past 25 years. The red silk thread hanging in the space is an iconic element of Chiharu Shioda's artistic practice. In her view, red lines are "the color of blood," meaning bondage and connection, as well as relationships between people. Silk threads wind, hang, and lift huge ships, suitcases, or charred pianos and chairs, exploring the complex relationship between things and things, things and people, revealing the interaction between the human heart and the outer world, and expressing those indescribable emotions.

(Also exhibited at the same time are "Pat Steele", "Greeting the Sunshine", "Blossoming Rich and Noble - Liang Miao's Works Exhibition", "Siren Yiren - Modern and Contemporary Character Story Theme Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition".) )

Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan draws on people and objects in the real world, and he often places materials, objects and actions in challenging fields in a playful and provocative way, provoking comment and participation. The exhibition takes into account the way Cattelan's works are presented, creating a loose and open viewing space for the audience. The scene covers 29 representative works including installations, sculptures and performances, including the artist's important early works "Family Dictionary" (1989) and the famous works "Cattelan" (1994), "Beep Beep" (1996), "Comedian" (2019), as well as a series of works based on taxidermy.

Cattelan's view of art is rooted in contemporary social contradictions, not only questioning the cultural traditions and social stereotypes of his native Italy, but also examining the moral concepts of today's globalized society and the context in which related views arise. While presenting artistic philosophies, Cattelan also tries to change the proportion of objects to create special sensory experiences, such as the miniature elevator that can run in Untitled (2001). The performance work Untitled (1998) mocks the commercialized system of global art production, with the artist reminding the audience by dressing as Picasso's mascot that everything, including art, can eventually be reduced to pure entertainment.

The Song Art Museum simultaneously launched solo exhibitions by three artists, Wu Yi, Wang Yuping and Cai Lei. The curators take the three basic elements of place, time and space as the dimensions of observation of the three artists and their recent creations, so that the three exhibitions not only present their own faces, but also bring the audience different dimensions of viewing experience through collision and overlap.

Among them, the "Prague" of martial arts points to the location, and the exhibition includes more than 30 paintings of martial arts depicting the city of Prague. The paintings are small in scale, and from the central street to the countryside, they are also small, everyday or intimate glimpses. Wang Yuping's "Imaginary Age Sixty" points to time, and "Sixty" not only refers to the age of the painter, but also reflects the precipitation of skills and art in his works. The exhibition begins with a self-portrait created in 1986, presenting Wang Yuping's new works from 2021, and concluding with two paintings of "Imaginary Age Sixty". Finally, Cai Lei's "Climbing the Stairs" points to space, and his works reflect the artist's efforts to explore space and deal with reality. His new work "Staircase Series" during the epidemic period is more in line with the meaning of "isolation" in "Climbing the Stairs to the Ladder", which makes people reflect on the future human situation.
