On December 14th, after eight months of construction, the High Performance Computing Center donated by Yang Yuanqing, chairman and CEO of Lenovo Group and alumnus of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Shanghai Jiaotong University in 1986, was officially inaugurated and inaugurated in the experimental building of the Li Zhengdao Research Institute of Shanghai Jiaotong University. The green water-cooled high-performance computing equipment of "Yang Yuanqing Scientific Computing Center" was named "Siyuan No. 1".

"Siyuan No.1" technical highlights

"The official opening of this high-performance computing center with the strongest computing power in Chinese universities means that it can finally officially devote itself to serving the basic scientific research and major projects of its alma mater, and I am extremely pleased that Chituma met General Guan and made the best use of it." Yang Yuanqing said at the unveiling ceremony.

At the unveiling ceremony, Tong Fuyao, president of Lenovo Enterprise Technology Group, introduced that the total computing power of the "Siyuan-1" high-performance computer is 600 trillion times per second (double precision). In the list of the world's top 500 high-performance computers released in November this year, "Siyuan No. 1" ranked 132nd in computing power; in the list of China's high-performance computing TOP100, it ranked 12th, ranking first in the high-performance computing ranking of Chinese universities.

In addition to the first computing power of Chinese universities, "Siyuan No. 1" also has three major technical characteristics: ultra-high computing density and power consumption density, green energy saving, and energy recyclability.

In terms of computing density, "Siyuan No. 1" to achieve six quadrillion of computing power, only need 14 cabinets, the general general data center needs 70 cabinets to achieve similar computing power, the computing density is 5 times that of the general data center, the required computer room area is less than 1/10 of the general computer room; in terms of green energy saving, the average PUE (energy utilization efficiency) of China's data center is 1.9, which means that for every 1 degree of electricity calculation, an additional 0.9 degrees of electricity is needed to dissipate heat to the computing equipment. The "Siyuan No. 1" adopts Lenovo's world-class advanced fifth-generation warm water cooling technology, with a PUE value of 1.1, which can save 42% of electricity and carbon dioxide emissions compared with the traditional air-cooled heat dissipation scheme; in terms of energy utilization, the waste heat generated during the computer operation process can be used for the winter heating of the spherical hall of the institute, the hot water heating of the canteen kitchen, the dehumidification of the basement, and the air conditioning temperature control of the laboratory, to achieve an additional carbon compensation of 950 tons per year.

After the opening of the Yang Yuanqing Scientific Computing Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University, the public computing platform of Shanghai Jiaotong University will become the top computing power base of domestic universities, including five major computing platforms and scientific big data platforms such as cloud platform, artificial intelligence computing platform and high-performance computing platform.

Ranking of Computer Computing Power of Chinese Universities

On April 10 this year, Yang Yuanqing announced in his speech at the 125th Week Celebration Ceremony of Shanghai Jiaotong University that he personally invested 100 million yuan to use Lenovo's most advanced products and technologies to build a first-class green water-cooled high-performance computing center for his alma mater, Shanghai Jiaotong University, to promote the popularization of computing power in colleges and universities, empower basic scientific research innovation and talent training, and help overcome more common challenges facing all mankind.

After the unveiling ceremony, Lenovo Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Lenovo Group will continue to invest 200 million yuan in the field of scientific research, talent training and new technology incubation in the next three years.
