If you often go to the Cultural Heritage Museum, you will also see lao Bo holding a wax knife and making batik works on the workbench with a pair of skillful hands, he is Yang Lin, the inheritor of the Anshun Miao batik and embroidery skills.
The 56-year-old Yang Lin is a native of the Miao, influenced by the older generation of the family, he will batik and embroidery from a young age, the early family conditions are difficult, although he loves traditional skills, but in order to increase the family's income, Yang Lin decided to go out to work. In 1992, Anshun City successfully held the first batik art festival, attracting many guests from home and abroad, Yang Lin was very touched, he felt that as long as the traditional national skills can be well developed, it will certainly be promising, but the local people are getting fewer and fewer, if not paid attention to, I don't know when it will be lost. For this situation, Yang Lin saw it in his eyes, was anxious in his heart, and was determined to pass it on and promote it to more places. So he "picked up" the batik and embroidery techniques that had been left down for a long time and began to engage in batik and embroidery production.
In June 2018, with the support of the government, Yang Lin united with a number of local traditional handicraft production and operation households to establish the Xixiu District Batik Embroidery Association, so that Miao batik embroidery from the previous small fight, become large-scale, ensure product quality, standardize the price, and gradually get the recognition of the market. In order to attract the audience, Yang Lin combines traditional skills with modern craftsmanship, reducing production costs and increasing production. At the same time, he also worked hard from the design, on the basis of retaining the tradition, integrated new elements, the Miao embroidery and batik as embellishment decoration, made into handbags, clothes, scarves, veils, etc., adjusted the Miao embroidery production materials, improved the quality of embroidery, and adapted to the needs of daily life. He innovated on batik themes, and traditional culture, humanities, landscapes, etc. from all over the country were his inspiration. Nowadays, batik and embroidery products have been exported to many cities at home and abroad, and a large number of orders have made many people gradually take batik and miao embroidery as a source of income.
In order to let everyone get rid of poverty through national traditional skills, since 2019, Yang Lin has held a number of women's reemployment training at his own expense, especially some low-income families and disabled people, training them in embroidery and batik technology for free, explaining how to combine the elements of the new era to innovate and produce national characteristic products that conform to the current trend. In the fight against poverty, Yang Lin used traditional skills to drive local people out of poverty through employment and solved the employment problem of 806 people.
In addition to training local villagers, Yang Lin has also carried out traditional culture into the campus activities for many times, bringing batik into the campus, increasing children's understanding of traditional culture and letting them feel the charm of traditional culture. Now, Yang Lin is planning to build a cultural and creative park, he hopes to provide more children with a base for learning and practicing batik and embroidery for free after completion, so that they can experience the traditional skills of the nation from an early age, starting from the child, so that more people can pass on the traditional skills of the nation.
