In early spring, in the Dananshan Miao Village in Yixin Village, Yanzikou Town, Qixingguan District, Bijie City, Guizhou Province, Miao women are busy embroidering, batiking, making local Miao costumes and handicrafts to supply the market.
Dananshan Miao Village is a traditional Miao village. After hundreds of years of inheritance, batik and embroidery have become the traditional skills mastered by many local Miao compatriots. Zhou Zhengxiang, a 62-year-old villager, has mastered the embroidery batik technique of the Miao people since he was carefully taught by his mother, and has been engaged in Miao batik and embroidery for nearly half a century. In order to pass on the batik and embroidery skills, she has volunteered to teach more than 100 people, and is known as the "Umeng Embroidery Lady".
Under her leadership, the local Hmong batik and embroidery skills were developed. Zhou Zhengxiang introduced that the fabric used in Miao costumes is that they themselves go up the mountain to plant hemp, harvest it back, peel hemp, spin thread, weave cloth, paint wax dyeing, and then sew. Due to the long production time, the price of local Miao costumes is much higher than that of mechanized production, which is loved by the surrounding Miao compatriots and exported to the United States, Britain, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and other countries through the network.
Today, Zhou Zhengxiang plans to open a shop in The Miao Village in The Great South Mountain, organizing women compatriots to start a business and making Miao batik and embroidery together, which can not only increase everyone's income, but also pass on this traditional skill well.
