Zhang Anzhong's father, Zhang Changshao, was born in Jiading County in 1906, and when he was a teenager, he worked as an apprentice in a private hospital and was later admitted to Shanghai Medical College.
In 1937, Zhang Changshao studied in England, and in 1939, he received a doctorate in medicine and a doctorate in philosophy from the University of London, and was admitted as a member of the Royal Society.
