Shen Yi reveals: the US-Taiwan black hand behind the Solomon Islands riots

author:China Youth Network

On December 6, local time, the Parliament of the Solomon Islands, a South Pacific island nation, held a meeting against Prime Minister Menasi? In Sogavare's vote of no confidence, the bill was not passed by 32 votes against, 15 votes in favor and 2 abstentions. In a two-hour speech to congress, Sogavare denounced "Taiwan agents" for planning political riots in an attempt to destabilize the government and stressed that they would not succumb to the "evil forces."

Shen Yi reveals: the US-Taiwan black hand behind the Solomon Islands riots

Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands, Sogavare

In late November, riots broke out in the Solomon Islands, a South Pacific island nation in which protesters gathered in the capital, Honiara, stormed the Parliament building, demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Sogavare, and set fire to and "ransacked" Chinatown and Chinese shops. Most of the riot participants reportedly came from The island of Maleta, near the capital, and Reuters said Sogavare's "Taiwan agent" referred to as the Solomon Islands' Province of Maleta. After the Solomon Islands "severed diplomatic relations" with the Taiwan authorities in 2019 and established diplomatic relations with the Chinese mainland, Mareta Province continued to maintain close contact with the Taiwan authorities and accepted US foreign aid. So, why did the Solomon Islands suddenly riot? What is the black hand behind the manipulation and incitement of the riots? Shen Yi, a professor at the Department of International Politics of Fudan University, was interviewed exclusively by the "Grand View of the Taiwan Strait" and made a detailed analysis.

Shen Yi said that the intervention of external forces refers to the DPP authorities in the United States and Taiwan. The current riots in the Solomon Islands were also a counterattack by the "Taiwan independence" forces. For Tsai Ing-wen, she needs to use such a "counterattack" method to revitalize some so-called "prestige" in the international community to counter the general trend of "Taiwan independence" being abandoned by the international community. At present, 180 countries in the world recognize and support the one-China principle, and from the South Pacific to Central and South America, the DPP authorities in Taiwan have used their "banknote capability" to maintain the faltering so-called "diplomatic relations."

Taiwan's "China Times News Network" published a commentary pointing out that the current turmoil in the Solomon Islands shows that the UNITED States and the DPP authorities have the opportunity to take advantage of the hostility between solomones and the unfair economic distribution over the years to use the so-called "pro-Taiwan forces" plus "pro-US forces" to subvert the regime in the Solomon Islands.

At the beginning of the riots in the Solomon Islands, Prime Minister Sogavare had hinted that the riots were caused by incitement and intervention by external forces, and that "some countries" were not happy to see the Solomon Islands establish diplomatic relations with China. Meanwhile, Sogavare insisted on upholding Solomon Islands' diplomatic relations with China, saying "this decision is correct and legitimate, it puts Solomon Islands on the right side of history and is consistent with international law." Although Sogavare did not name "some countries," the discerning eye could tell.

For some time, from Lithuania to the Solomon Islands, the United States can be seen behind these small countries to stir up trouble and undermine the one-China principle, Professor Shen Yi bluntly said that the United States is launching a "bushfire war" and "proxy action" against China.

Professor Shen Yi believes that although the United States and China have launched a global game and competition, China's "Belt and Road" initiative and the proposal to promote a community with a shared future for mankind are based on development and construction, driving local people to live a happy and beautiful life, which is China's comparative advantage.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Solomon Islands in September 2019, the relations between the two countries have developed well, and the exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in the fields of economy, trade, infrastructure, education and health have achieved fruitful results, bringing tangible benefits and well-being to the two peoples. Prime Minister Sogavare said in a speech to the parliament a few days ago that in 2019, the Government of the Institute of Diplomatic Relations made the correct decision on behalf of the people, and solomon Islands is proud to become the 179th country to establish diplomatic relations with China. The government firmly adheres to the one-China principle, and no one can change this position. The diplomatic relations established in China are based on the interests and development needs of the country, and China will bring important opportunities for its development.

Facts have once again proved that the one-China principle is the aspiration of the people and the trend of the times, conforms to the trend of the times, is a universally recognized norm governing international relations and the universal consensus of the international community. Any attempt to violate the one-China principle and interfere with and sabotage Relations between China will not succeed.
