Located in The Chongqiu District of Plateau in Anshun City, Guizhou Province, the Baling River Bridge is the first mega-bridge spanning the Baling River Grand Canyon on the main route of the Shanghai-Rui National Highway. The bridge is a single-span steel truss stiffener suspension bridge with a main span of 1088 meters, with a total length of 1564 meters and a bridge deck to the water surface of the Baling River of 370 meters.

The length of the tunnel anchor on the west bank of the bridge is 74.34 meters, and the amount of gravity anchor concrete pouring on the east bank is 81662 cubic meters. The east tower is 186 meters high and the west tower is 201 meters high, and the terrain on both sides of the river valley is steep and undulating, with the river valley reaching a depth of 400 to 600 meters.

Unlike the three cable-stayed bridges introduced in the previous part, the Baling River Bridge is a single-span steel truss stiffener girder suspension bridge.

Construction technology, significance

Pingtang Bridge

The Pingtang Bridge is a high-speed passage in Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province, China, located on the Grand Canyon of the Chudu River, and is one of the important components of the Yuqing-Anlong Expressway.

Pingtang Bridge starts from Tongzhou Interchange in the west, spans the trough river above the Grand Canyon, and east to the Tooth Boat Interchange; the total length of the bridge is 2135 meters, and the width of the main bridge is 30.2 meters; the bridge deck is a two-way four-lane highway with a design speed of 80 km/h.

On April 29, 2016, the construction of the Pingtang Special Bridge began, and the tower height of 332 meters will set a record for the "first" of the world's high concrete bridge towers, and the total investment of the Pingtang Bridge is expected to be 1.5 billion yuan.

Design concept

Construction difficulties

(1) The mechanism and force of the three-tower cable-stayed bridge and the more common ordinary double-tower cable-stayed bridge are quite different, specifically because there is no auxiliary pier and excessive pier dispersion weight and lateral thrust on both sides of the middle bridge tower, which cannot provide effective constraints on the midspan main bridge, and the overload impact of the structure is greater, resulting in the deflection of the main girder of the three-tower cable-stayed bridge, the stress amplitude of the cable-stayed cable and the bending moment of the base of the tower are much larger than those of the two-tower cable-stayed bridge.

(2) The height of the three towers of the Pingtang Bridge is about 300 meters, how to improve the stiffness of the structural system, control the fatigue stress amplitude of the cable-stayed cable, and meet the stress requirements of the tower beam cable is also the key to the design.
