John Austin Hannah is an American artist. Graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Advertising Arts and Design. An illustrator who has worked in New York and Dallas for 20 years, he has published in magazines such as Automotive Quarterly, Cars and Drivers, Legends, Town and Country, Flying, Volkswagen Rowing, and Popular Science.
He has also worked for several large companies such as Mercedes, Volkswagen, Bell Helicopters, Lockheed Martin, Bourdain, Pearl Beer, Coors Beer, Phillips 66, Shell Oil, Byron Nelson Golf Classic and Chilean Bar Grill. Mr. Hannah's work can also be found in several books published by Harcourt Bryce World and McGraw Hill. He has worked for writers Ian Fleming and Warner Bros.
Despite his success in illustration, Hannah believes his career really took off once he traded "the skyline of a big city" for rock houses, livestock, landscapes and old barns in Fredericksburg, Texas. Hannah explains, "My illustration career in New York and Dallas has been fantastic, but I didn't really listen to my wishes. ”。“ Throughout my childhood at Beaumont, I have been painting and dreaming of becoming a 'true' artist. I finally decided I had to pursue this dream. ”。
Hannah's paintings are intensely lighted and rich in color. His paintings cover a variety of subjects, from landscapes, still lifes and portraits, from the Texas Gulf Coast to quaint country homes on the remote roads of Missouri. Some of his paintings depict a large picture, while others depict a journey through life. He revealed: "For me, life would be more interesting if you look at life the way you do now. Everything has its inherent beauty. ”。“ There's always something that triggers a painting: an old house, a stone wall, maybe just flicking on the creek water. I've never finished watching anything. ”
John will participate in the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation's Texas Park Art Program at the Block Texas State Museum of History in October 2023 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Texas Park System. His paintings will also reappear in the "Artist's Night" exhibition at the Brisco Museum of Western Art in March 2020. He is a member of the American Oil Painters Association (OPA) and his work has been published by Somerset Press. John was honored to be commissioned by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in 2005 to do an eight-stage rodeo for their corporate office. He lives with his wife, Shirley, in Fredericksburg, Texas.
