Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the company's new plant in Austin, Texas, will total more than $10 billion over time.
Musk tweeted: "Over time, the Austin plant will become a project with an investment of more than $10 billion, creating at least 20,000 direct jobs and 100,000 indirect jobs." ”
Tesla did not immediately respond to a request seeking more details about the tweet. The company has previously said the plant will create about 10,000 jobs. The Tesla factory is located near Austin's eastern suburban airport, and the company is expected to receive nearly $65 million in tax refunds from the local area.
Documents released not long ago show that Tesla plans to spend more than $1 billion on the Austin plant and intends to complete construction by the end of the year. The Austin plant will produce Tesla's upcoming electric pickups, the Cyberterruck, Model 3 and Model Y.
Earlier this month, Tesla confirmed it had moved its headquarters from California to Austin.
