The story of Zhai Wanming and the railway begins with an unforgettable "ride experience". In 1981, at the age of 18, Zhai Wanming was admitted to Southwest Jiaotong University, limited by the railway conditions at that time, from Jingjiang in Jiangsu to Emei, Sichuan, only 2,000 kilometers, Zhai Wanming spent three days and four nights to arrive at the school by train, during which she also stood for a day and a night. Such an experience made Zhai Wanming determined to find a way to apply what she had learned to the national rail transit development cause.

With the goal of building a "railway powerhouse", Zhai Wanming took Southwest Jiaotong University as the "base", continuously innovated in basic theoretical research, took the lead in proposing and systematically establishing a new theory of "vehicle-track coupling dynamics", and created a new field of railway system dynamics. In November 2016, the world's first new energy air-rail test line was successfully tested in Chengdu Shuangliu, which is also the first suspension train in China to innovate the energy-powered traction mode. "Chengdu's rail transit industry has a good foundation, universities, design institutes, engineering bureaus, rolling stock manufacturers are readily available, and the innovation industry chain is complete." At the same time, Chengdu is rich in talent resources and can provide sufficient intellectual guarantee. "Zhai Wanming believes that the air railway is the result of a joint research between industry, academia and research, which is inseparable from the mixed ownership reform of ownership of job scientific and technological achievements that Chengdu took the lead in carrying out in the country." Today, Zhai Wanming has been deeply engaged in the field of rail transit for more than 30 years, but the journey is far from over. From entering the Department of Mathematical Mechanics of Peking University in 1954 to becoming a famous mathematician and computer scientist in China today, Zhang Jingzhong has dealt with mathematics for most of his life.

During his 60-year teaching and scientific research career, Zhang Jingzhong proposed and implemented the numerical parallel method of machine proof of theorem, used the new method of geometry developed in the study of educational mathematics for many years for machine proof, and created the principle and method of automatic generation of readable proofs of geometric theorems. With this method, geometric proofs can be quickly carried out on microcomputers, new theorems can be calculated and invented, and easy-to-understand proofs of geometric significance can be given.

In recent years, with the continuous emergence of the effectiveness of educational mathematics and the great improvement of the effect of basic mathematics education, the focus of Zhang Jingzhong's work has gradually shifted to the automatic solution of mathematical problems. In his view, the use of computers to replace people for scientific research is long and difficult, but the future must be of great help to mankind.

In June this year, at the first Tianfu Forum on supercomputing innovation applications, Chengdu Supercomputing Center was released for the first time, and Chengdu Supercomputing Center is expected to achieve peak operation this year. The completion of the Chengdu Supercomputing Center, located in the core area of Luxi Zhigu in Chengdu Science City, will fill the layout gap of the national supercomputing system in the western region of China, and Chengdu ranks among the "supercomputing cities", and it is also this year that the Sichuan National Center for Applied Mathematics was officially inaugurated in Rong.
