Chien-shiung Wu (1912.5.31-1997.2.16), born in Liuhe Town, Taicang, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, Is a Chinese-American, famous nuclear physicist, known as the "Oriental Curie", the queen of world physics, the mother of the atomic bomb, the queen of nuclear physics, China's Marie Curie, the first lady of physical science, the greatest experimental physicist, and has made worldwide contributions in the field of β decay research.
He graduated from the Department of Physics of National Central University (now the School of Physics of Nanjing University) with a bachelor's degree in 1934, received a doctorate in physics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1940, became an associate professor at Columbia University in 1952, was promoted to professor in 1958, was elected a member of the American Academy of Sciences in 1958, and was elected one of the first foreign academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1994.
In 1975, she was awarded the National Medal of Science by US President Ford at the White House, the highest scientific honor in the United States, and in 1990, the Purple Mountain Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences named the asteroid internationally numbered 2752 "Wu Jianxiong Star".
