The film is based on the burlesque play "Satisfied Not Satisfied". In 1957, Zhang Xianer, the head of the Suzhou Burlesque Troupe, led the troupe to Suzhou Mudu to perform, and met a young waiter like Yang Yousheng while eating at the Shijia Hotel (then called Mudu People's Hotel), which triggered his inspiration to create "Satisfied Not Satisfied". At this time, Sun Rongquan, an advanced worker at Suzhou Songhelou Restaurant, pioneered the "three diligence, four fast, five hearts, six satisfaction" service work method, which was highly valued and warmly responded by the Ministry of Commerce and the national catering peers, and set off a boom in learning Sun Rongquan in the national commercial system, and his deeds were compiled into a commentary.
Therefore, Zhang Xianer created "Satisfied Not Satisfied" based on these two characters. At the Third "Jiangsu Opera Observation and Performance Conference" in 1959, "Satisfied Not Satisfied", which had achieved great success in Suzhou and was once difficult to find, participated as a representative play in Suzhou, which once again caused great repercussions and won the Excellent Performance Award and creation award.
Shijia Hotel and Songhe Tower Restaurant are both centuries-old brands. Shijia Hotel is located at No. 18, Mudu Zhongshi Street, Suzhou Ancient Town, and was founded in 1790. The restaurant makes good use of freshwater fish from Taihu Lake to cook, and after several generations, it has formed a unique dish system based on ten famous dishes, and is known as a stone dish.
The Songhe Tower was first founded by Xu in 1737 near the Xuanmiao Temple in Suzhou, and it sells noodles and meals. Later, Tianhe Xiangdian advocated that Wen Ping take the lead in leasing the store in the form of a joint venture, and renamed it Hutchison Song Crane Tower, which was a major turning point in the history of Song Crane Tower. Because Songhe Tower has created a unique style of original Su-style cuisine, and is located in the center of the ancient and prosperous and lively Guanqian Street, it has become a place for celebrities to feast.
At the 1963 National People's Congress, Vice Premier Li Xiannian, who was in charge of the economy at the time, criticized by name the lack of "a film that reflects the service of the masses in the industry" in film creation, which was "a dereliction of duty in film work." Therefore, Chen Huangmei, who was the director of the film bureau at the time, asked the long film factory to undertake this task. Lin Shan, the deputy director in charge of the script, just happened to see the performance of "Satisfied Not Satisfied", so he gave the task of adapting and shooting "Satisfied or Dissatisfied" to Director Yan Gong, who was good at shooting comedies.

Director Yan Gong personally experienced life in Songhe Tower, made friends with the clerks, went to the hall to wipe the table, laid hands, and decided to put part of the scene in the Songhe Tower for field shooting.
In terms of actors, the film retains some of the original team of people, the original burlesque starring Zhang Xianer's disciple Xiao Xian'er, but because he is thin and small, he cannot highlight the image of socialist youth on the camera, and was eventually replaced, only playing chef Jin Gen, who always likes to stand on a stool to give a speech, Fang Xiaoxiao plays the prototype Sun Rongquan's master Shen, and Zhang Xian'er plays Master Zhang who always hangs "dear customers" on his mouth.
Other actors are from the Changzhou Burlesque Troupe, among them, Yang Tianxiao, whose original name is Chen Huimin and entered the troupe at the age of 13 to learn art, has taken on the heavy responsibility of playing the male number one Yang Yousheng.
Under the guidance of the director, Xiao Yang Tianxiao gradually got rid of the outdated "falling" (that is, the condom) of the burlesque play and the performance program of a thousand people, which made Yang Yousheng's comedic character leave a deep impression on the audience, and he also won the Xiaobaihua Award for Best Actor award from the Long Film Studio.
In August 1983, Xiao Yang Tianxiao was hospitalized for liver cancer, and during his hospitalization, he never forgot to return to the burlesque stage he loved, but finally died at the age of 50 due to the deterioration of his condition.
The restaurant in the original burlesque play was named "Songyue Lou", in order to avoid the audience from immediately thinking of the Songhe Tower, director Yan Gong renamed it "Deyue Lou" according to the "Deyue tower" tea house next to the Wende Bridge in his hometown of Nanjing. In fact, there is indeed a Deyuelou restaurant in the history of Suzhou, which was founded in the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, and the location is in the Tiger Hill Bantang Yefangbangkou. When the Qianlong Emperor went down to Jiangnan, he once ate in deyuelou, and because his dishes were extremely delicious, he was also given the name "the world's first restaurant". Due to its age, this restaurant has long ceased to exist.
On April 25, 1982, Suzhou Catering Company restored the Deyuelou Restaurant based on the cooking school practice base originally named Suzhou Restaurant in the eunuch lane next to Guanqian Street. In the same year, "Little Moon Building", which is the sequel to "Satisfied or Dissatisfied", was filmed here.
