Poet background small common sense

Du Fu (712-770 AD), also known as Zimei, was born in Xiangyang (present-day Xiangfan, Hubei) and later moved to Gong County (present-day Gongyi, Henan). In the twenty-third year of Emperor Xuanzong's reign (735 AD), Du Fu went to Luoyang to take the exam, and Emperor Xuanzong Tianbao met Li Bai in Luoyang in the third year (744 AD), and the two met between You Liang and Song, and then met in Lu County the following year. In the fourteenth year of Tianbao (755 AD), he began to serve as a soldier of the Right Guard, Cao, and in November of the same year, an An Lushan rebellion occurred.

Although he was in a chaotic world, Du Fu was still concerned about his career, after all, "Serving Confucian Officials" ("Entering the Sculpture Endowment Table") was his family style of the past, and "To Jun Yao Shunshang" ("Giving Wei Zuo ChengZhang Twenty-two Rhymes") was the vision of ruling the world that he embraced. However, later, when the chancellor Fang Zhen was deposed and Du Fu was rescued by Du Fu, the imperial court regarded the two as henchmen, and the following year demoted him to The commander of Hua Prefecture (present-day Hua County, Shaanxi) to join the army, expelling him from the center of the imperial court, and also signaling that his Confucian ideal of governing the world would eventually come to naught.

In the second year of Emperor Guangde of the Tang Dynasty (764 AD), his former friend Yan Wu once again guarded Shudi and recommended Du Fu as a member of the Inspection and Engineering Department, and the name of "Du Gongbu" also came from this. In his later years, Du Fu took his family to wander in Hunan and Hubei, taking the boat as his home, and the New Book of Tang Dynasty Records that Du Fu encountered a flood in Hunan Andyang, did not eat for ten days, and waited for the county order to find him, and quickly gave him beef and liquor to fill his hunger. He is the author of "Du Gongbu Collection".

Du Fu wrote more than 1,400 poems in his lifetime, the content of which mostly tells the joys and sorrows of the world, the rise and fall of the times, and specifically describes the blood and tears of the Tang Dynasty from prosperity to decline, so posterity called it "poetic history". The Middle Tang Dynasty poet Yuan Shu once said: "Since the poet, there has never been a person who is as beautiful as a son." The ancient Chinese people Han Yue said more: "Li Du's article is here, and the flame of light is long." Expressing admiration for the poetic achievements of Li Bai and Du Fu, Du Fu especially won the name of "poetry saint" with his sentiments of compassion for the heavens and the people, and the sorrow for the country and the people.

The story of the famous sentence

"Kezhi" is a seven-word poem, written in the second year of Tang Suzong's reign (761 AD), the original note of the poem has the six characters of "Xi Cui Ming Fu Xiang Pass", "Ming Fu" is the Tang people's honorific title for the county order, this "Cui Ming Fu" is Du Fu's uncle, he visited Du Fu in the spring of this year, the visit of relatives, the poet warmly greeted each other, the mood was also happy.

The place where the poem "Shenan Shebei" is located is a hut built by Du Fu on the banks of Huanhua Creek outside the west gate of Chengdu, Sichuan, and is historically called "Huanhua Caotang". After Emperor Suzong resigned from The Army in Hua prefecture (present-day Hua County, Shaanxi) in the second year of the reign of Emperor Qianzong (759 AD), Du Fu took his family into exile for nearly half a year and finally decided to settle in Chengdu, which was also the most stable period of Du Fu's life after the Anshi Rebellion.

When his uncle Cui Mingfu appeared in Chengdu Caotang, Du Fu has lived here for more than a year, the first two sentences of the poem describe the spring water in front of the door, wandering between the mountains and gulls and birds all day long, it can be seen that the poet is still cold, but life is also idyllic and comfortable; among them, "the flower path has not been swept by guests, and the Pengmen gate is now open for Junkai", indicating that Du Fu came to this place, and there were few people and guests, so when he saw his relatives visiting, he excitedly cleaned up the courtyard and cleaned the messy flowers in front of the door.

Although the generous Du Fu tried his best to bring good wine and good dishes to entertain this dearest and rare guest, there were very few ingredients left at home, and even the existing wine was an old turbid wine with a bad taste. Finally, this rough meal was not over, and Du Fu asked the guests if he would like to have a drink with the old man next door, showing his frank disposition of his generous neighbors. The whole poem is written in the first person, and compared with Du Fu's other epic poems of the era of worrying about the country and the people and wandering uncertainly, "Kezhi" presents a pastoral style like home, full of simple rural fun.

Timeless saying famous sentences

In Du Fu's "Kezhi", "The flower path has not been swept by the guest, and the Pengmen is now junkai", which is often combined by posterity as the term "flower path Pengmen", which is used to describe the natural simplicity of the living environment, and as for the word "Pengmen", it is mostly synonymous with the cold people.

Liu Changqing, a poet who was the same age as Du Fu, said that the last two sentences of his seven-sentence "Reward Li Mu Seeing Mail" are: "I want to sweep the chai gate to welcome distant guests, and the moss and yellow leaves are full of poor families." The poem describes that the author personally cleaned the firewood door, sorted out the moss leaves, and prepared to welcome the distant guests, in fact, this distant guest was not an outsider, but his son-in-law Li Mu, which showed that the feelings of Weng and his son-in-law were harmonious, and they were equally happy to see the arrival of their relatives with Du Fu's "Kezhi", and the two of them also took care of the poor homes built of thatched reeds.

In the 1950s, there was a Western film the quiet man, Chinese meaning "gentle people", and the subsequent Chinese translation film was called "Pengmen Is Now Junkai", and the translator took Du Fu's "Kezhi" verse, which seemed to have nothing to do with the original English meaning, but was full of a strong Chinese poetry.

The film depicts a boxing champion who accidentally beats him to death in a boxing match, after which he chooses to quit boxing and return to his Irish hometown from the United States to live a peaceful and secluded life; later, when he enters marriage, his wife becomes more and more unaccustomed to her husband's cowardly character, believing that he never knows how to fight for his rights. The plot continues to develop, the wife finally found that the husband is not blindly yielding, let others bully the weak, in his inner world, because of the past boxing accident, learn to hide, when the wife is willing to understand the depths of the husband's soul, the two began to freeze the previous suspicions, love as ever.

"Pengmen Is Now Open for The King" cites Du Shi as the title of the film, perhaps based on this poem, implying the meaning of opening the door of the heart, which can echo the theme of the film; later the film also won two Academy Awards in 1953.
