Wuhan, December 3 (Xinhua) -- Wuhan University issued an obituary on the 3rd that Li Long, a well-known Marxist jurist, legal educator, important founder of socialist rule of law theory with Chinese characteristics and new Chinese jurisprudence, and senior professor of humanities and social sciences at Wuhan University, died in Wuhan at 15:45 on December 2, 2020 at the age of 83 due to ineffective medical treatment.

Li Long was born on January 24, 1937 in Gongjiaping Town, Qiyang County, Hunan Province. In 1950, he joined the army, participated in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, and engaged in medical rescue work. In 1988, he worked at the Law School of Wuhan University. In 2004, he was selected as a senior professor of humanities and social sciences at Wuhan University.

Li Long has been engaged in legal education and legal research all his life, and has concurrently served as a member of the "Horse Project" Key Textbook Review Committee of the Ministry of Education and a member of the Academic Committee of the China Law Society. Since the 1980s, he has published more than 40 monographs and textbooks. He has presided over more than ten projects such as major projects of the Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education, and won three first prizes of the National Excellent Achievement Award and two first prizes of the National Excellent Textbook Of the Ministry of Education.

Li Long has made significant original contributions in the fields of sinification of Marxist jurisprudence, construction of jurisprudence discipline system, construction of democracy and rule of law, reform of legal education, basic theory of constitutional law, theory and practice of human rights, and traditional Chinese legal culture. The book "TheOry and Practice of Human Rights", of which he is the executive editor-in-chief, systematically expounds the basic content of the Marxist concept of human rights for the first time. The book "History of the Development of Chinese Jurisprudence", which he has painstakingly written for many years, is an important academic document for the study of jurisprudence in the new era of China. He is committed to promoting the exchange and cooperation of Chinese legal science, and many of his works have been collected by the Harvard Law School Library.

Li Long was frugal all his life, but he never forgot to cultivate new people. In 2017, Li Long led his disciples to initiate the establishment of the "Wuhan University Li Long Foundation" to support legal research and promote legal education. Under his leadership and guidance, Wuhan University has successively created platforms such as the Legal Aid Center of Wuhan University, the Public Welfare and Development Law Research Center of Wuhan University, and the Human Rights Research Institute of Wuhan University.
