The famous mathematician Abel once said: "If a person wants to make progress in mathematics, he must learn from a master." On October 21st, Nanjing Tianzheng Primary School was full of joy, and the teachers and students of the school eagerly looked forward to the arrival of the internationally famous mathematical master Qiu Chengtong. On the afternoon of the 21st, Professor Qiu Chengtong visited Tianzheng Primary School and talked face-to-face with teachers and classmates.

Inspirational teenagers find their home in the mathematical world
Professor Chengtong Yau is one of the most influential mathematicians of our time. He is a professor at Harvard University, a lecturer at Tsinghua University, and the dean of the Beijing Yanqi Lake Institute of Applied Mathematics. At the age of 27, Professor Yau Chengtong cracked the Top Mathematical Problem Calabi Conjecture in one fell swoop, shaking the world; at the age of 33, he became the first Chinese winner of the Fields Medal of the "Nobel" of mathematics. Professor Qiu Chengtong, who has distinguished himself with honors and remarkable achievements, can be described as legendary and inspirational in his life. In today's one-and-a-half-hour speech, Professor Yau Chengtong told his study experience at the University of California, Berkeley, and the participants followed Professor Yau Chengtong to re-embark on the road of growth.
According to Professor Yau Chengtong, in 1969, he entered the Berkeley Mathematics Department with a borrowed $100 "out of the box" to begin his graduate career. During his study, Qiu Chengtong lived a simple life, but he never spared no effort in buying books. "I sent my mother half of the scholarship to supplement the family's living expenses, and there was not much left, but I didn't spend much on cooking, and the money to buy books still had more than enough." At that time, the books of the two American professors were not cheap, but I bought them, and these books directly affected my research," Professor Yau said.
During the Christmas holidays, Professor Yau did not choose to go out to play, but soaked in the library, accompanied by books. One discovery he made while browsing the journal, which he spent weeks thinking about, proved an interesting and interdisciplinary theorem before the start of the winter semester, which was affirmed by the professor and studied in more depth. Professor Yau said: "Although I studied at Berkeley for only two years, at the beginning of my life of research, I tried to be interested in creation, and I was determined to do university questions. The cultivation of teacher-friend exchanges has benefited me a lot in my life! ”
Elementary school students ask Grandpa Qiu
How to learn mathematics well?
"Grandpa Yau, I think math is really hard to learn. Can you tell us about how you learned mathematics well when you were a child? "Grandpa Yau, who has influenced you the most in your math studies?" At the meeting, in the face of questions from the students of Tianzheng Elementary School, Professor Yau Chengtong also gave his own answer: "To turn mathematics into an interesting thing, don't feel difficult, go to the museum and other favorite places to discover the 'mathematics' around you, and cultivate your own interest." ”
"Sanization" Mathematics Education
Give students "fit" development
At the meeting, Tianzheng Primary School also introduced the school's mathematics education methods to Professor Qiu Chengtong.
Tianzheng Primary School has a strong mathematical team, and the school's mathematics group has won the Nanjing Excellent Teaching and Research Group for three consecutive years since 2011. "The 'three modernizations' education in our school comes from mathematics education and the core literacy of teachers' professions." According to Wang Jiuhong, principal of Tianzheng Primary School, the "three modernization education" is the culturalization of mathematics, mathematical knowledge is abstract and rigorous, and students' thinking has a process from image thinking to abstract thinking. The school through the mathematical reading corner, billboards and other forms, so that students feel that mathematics is alive; the second is the mathematics child, the primary school stage to carry out a lot of mathematical activities suitable for children, starting from the wrong problem, specifically for the student's learning errors to study, to understand his difficulties in learning; the third is mathematical enrichment, for students with different learning levels, the school provides rich and full content. But this kind of enrichment is not brushing up on the problem, but with the teaching materials as the core, so that students can understand the ins and outs of knowledge and become the masters of knowledge.
Principal Wang Jiuhong
"Teachers are like cooks, knowledge is the ingredients, and students are diners. Students are very diverse and have their own characteristics. In order to meet different needs and let different students get different development, so we put forward 'suitable development', which is the educational concept that tianzheng primary school pursues," said principal Wang Jiuhong.
