In the mountains or flat land of Lushi County in the mountains of western Henan, large areas of lush walnut forests can be seen everywhere.

According to some data, Lushi County is a state-level poverty county, a county in a contiguous area of extreme poverty in Qinba Mountain, and a key county for poverty alleviation and development in Henan Province, and is one of the four deeply impoverished counties in Henan Province. In recent years, the county has scientifically researched and judged, vigorously developed the walnut and pepper industry according to local conditions, and has now planted nearly 800,000 mu of walnuts and more than 20,000 mu of peppercorns on a large scale, and has lengthened the industrial chain, driving the development of green deep processing industries such as walnut kernels and walnut oil.
Recently, the author saw in Zhuanggou Village, Hengjian Township, Lushi County, that there are many walnut trees here, and the branches are full of fruit. Despite the recent very dry weather, the fruit is now growing to the size of a mandarin orange, and a bumper harvest is in sight.
The author sees under a tree that many of the leaves on the tree have been eaten away by pests and only the leaf veins are left, which looks like a rack of fish bones.
A closer look revealed that there were a lot of black crustacean insects on the leaves that were nibbling on the leaves.
Did they do all this bad thing?
With this question in mind, the author consulted Mr. Nie, a teacher and chief engineer working in the local forestry department, on WeChat.
Mr. Nie preliminarily judged that this insect was a leaf-eating beetle based on the WeChat pictures I sent him, and he said that if the pest of leaf-eating beetle broke out in a concentrated manner, the harm would be terrible.
The author photographed with his mobile phone some of the walnut leaves that were eaten by pests.
