What kind of city is Zhengzhou's new partner? Recently, we have traveled to Xuchang several times to meet elites from all walks of life, stroll through the summer streets, linger in the lotus flowers of the water system, read the museum display, and feel the unique atmosphere and pulse of the city.
At the Xuchang Museum, we were deeply attracted by the basic exhibition "Xu Zhichang" on the first floor. The exhibition has won the "National Museum Top Ten Exhibition Excellence Award", which is composed of five special topics: "Xuchang People", "The Source of Xia Du", "The Origin of Xu Zhi", "Cao Wei Xu Du" and "Xu Zhou Memory", focusing on the prosperity of Xu Chang.
In the exhibition's "The Origin of Xu", we find the answer: "The Origin of Xu: Xu Di, named after the ancient Gao Shi Xu You who lived here. Xu Yu led the tribe... Up to now, the area around Xuchang and Yanling is grazing, and this area is called Xudi. In the early years of the Western Zhou Dynasty, the Zhou Dynasty sealed a state in Xudi, called the State of Xu. During the Qin and Han dynasties, the former Xu State was established as a county, and it was originally called Xu County. Since the end of the Han Dynasty, it has become the capital of Xudu, Xuchang County, Xuzhou and other capitals or counties and prefectures. ”
It turned out that Xu Chang's "Xu" originated from a person named Xu You! Xu Yu let this place get the name "Xu", for thousands of years, from XuDi to Xu Guo, and then to Xu County, Xu Chang, Xuzhou, ups and downs, vicissitudes and sangtian, but the word "Xu" has always been consistent, is a lifelong mark, is an eternal banner.
Who is Xu You? Why did his surname become a place name that was not easy for thousands of years?
"Xu You was the earliest hermit, regarded as the originator of seclusion, and pioneered China's hermit culture." Professor Li Junheng of Xuchang University said, "Although the culture of seclusion is not mainstream, it has a far-reaching influence in Chinese culture. Xu You is content and leisurely, does not seek fame and fortune, but is very famous and highly respected in later generations, he not only influenced the place name of Xuchang, but also profoundly influenced Xuchang and even the entire Chinese culture, and had a profound and huge impact on the mentality, way of thinking, and values of the Chinese nation. ”
Zhuangzi sets an "alternative example"
On a summer afternoon, the fields are silent and everything is exuberant. Brushing aside the wild grass that grows wantonly, we climbed a circular rammed earth wall, and looked around, the dense grass, trees, and crops outside the wall, and the exuberant dark green was boundless.
This is Xu You Village, Chen Huadian Town, Yanling County, Xuchang, and it is said that it is Xu You's hometown. In addition to the existing ruins, there is also a tomb with a ten-meter radius, and the stone stele in front of the tomb reads "Tomb of Gao Shi Xuyu".
"According to the existing literature, Xu Yu's earliest area of activity was at Dengfeng Jishan Mountain, which originated on the Yinghe River, and then descended east along the Yinghe River to the area of present-day Xuchang and Yanling, hence the name 'Xudi'." Professor Li Junheng introduced.
It is worth mentioning that according to archaeological excavations and surveys, the Xuyouzhai site is a Neolithic site, which was approved by the State Council as the seventh batch of national key protection units in 2013. Is this really where Xu Yu once lived? If this is the case, this is the core of the earliest Xudi, and the later Xuguo, Xuxian, Xuchang, and Xuzhou have their roots here.
Xu Yu's own affairs are recorded in many ancient texts, the earliest of which are from "Mozi" and "Zhuangzi". According to the Mozi So-dye, Shun, Yu, Shang Tang, and King Wu of Zhou were able to "rule the world and cover the heavens and the earth with merit" because they were infected and taught by the sages respectively, and let the great sages of Shun first recommend Xu You.
Xu You is an example promoted by Zhuangzi. In the book "Zhuangzi", Xu You is a very important figure, and seven of the thirty-three articles of Zhuangzi talk about him. In Zhuangzi's pen, Xu You is a sage who advocates nature, is transparent, transcends fame and fortune, and escapes between heaven and earth.
"Xu You is the originator of the hermit, and Yao gave the world to him, but he refused." Xu Lei, who is keen on xuchang cultural research, said. In the dialogue between Yao and Xu You in "Zhuangzi Getaway", the ancient Saint Junyao became a supporting role. He said that Xu Yu was like the sun and the moon, and there was no need for his fire to be lit; Xu Yu is like rain in time, there is no need to soak yourself, so you must give the world to Xu You.
Xu Yu flatly refused, replying that the wren used only one branch to build a nest in the wren forest, and would not want to occupy the entire forest; The mole river is full of drinking water, and will not want to occupy the whole river, and although the world is big, what is the use with me? Contented people are happy, greedy people are anxious; Self-worshippers are limited, complete health is enough, addicts are endless, insatiable greed, how can there be true happiness in the heart?"
Later, many texts mention Xu You, "Xun Zi", "Han Feizi", "Warring States Policy", "Lü Shi Chunqiu", "Shi Ji", etc., the Western Jin Dynasty Emperor Fu Mi's "Biography of Gao Shi" records Xu You's story in the most detail, and there is a new plot: Yao also recruited Xu Yu to be the governor of Jiuzhou, Xu Yu suspected that his ears were stained, so he went to wash his ears by the water, and his friend Chaofu drank cattle by the river, asked why, suspected that the river water that had washed his ears was dirty, and the morning glory went upstream to drink water. This story was widely circulated in later generations.
"Xu You became the business card of the hidden culture, and in addition to becoming an enterprising role model such as Yao Shunyu Tang Wenwu Zhou Gong, another type of role model also had a profound impact on the hidden culture of later generations." Professor Li Junheng said.

The Xuchang Museum has a collection of items, the Jin Dynasty Xu Yu Chaofu Story Mirror. Similar bronze mirrors, in the National Museum of China, Hunan, Shaanxi, Jilin and other provincial museums have collections, Xu You's story, is an important theme of bronze mirror decoration in the Song and Jinyuan periods. In the folk and in the hearts of ordinary people, the promise of "aiming at Qingyun" is also admirable.
On April 8 this year, China's first (guqin) string song conference was held in Xuchang. There is a moving story behind the first national conference of Xuchang: Xuchang young artist Sha Shanshan's drunken heart string song has been widely recognized in the national guqin industry. But there is another layer of reasons, such as Professor Bo Keli, the mentor of Sha Shanshan and the first person to study Chinese string songs, said: "The deep origin and special relationship between guqin string songs and Xuchang determine Xuchang's position in the cultural history of guqin string songs." Xu Yu's more important influence is on Xu's family. Many of the Xu clan honored Xu Yu as their ancestor and were proud of him.
