author:Read to the Academy

At the time of Yao, there were two famous hermits, namely Xu You and Chao Father. Legend has it that Xu lived in a tree in the summer, moved to a cave in the winter, ate wild fruits from the mountains when he was hungry, drank water from the river when he was thirsty, and was famous for his festival of high heights and aspirations.

Yao's age gradually grew older, and his son Danju did not learn any techniques, and was a very unskilled person. At this time, Yao wanted to find a sage and give him the throne. At that time, he had not yet discovered Shun, but only heard that Xu Yu in Yangcheng was a virtuous person, so he went to visit him in person despite his advanced age.

Seeing Xu You, Yao said to him, "Isn't it too difficult for the sun and moon to illuminate the earth, and a small bunch of bonfires still want to get away with their own shimmer?" In time, the rain has fallen, but it is still necessary to irrigate the fields, is it not in vain! I am old, but I still occupy the throne, I feel too inappropriate, I give the world to you, please accept it!"

Xu Yu listened and replied, "You have governed the world very well, and I am still going to replace you, am I for a good reputation?" Everyone knows that fame is just a form, and do I have to work for it?...... You go back and rest, I don't need to rule the world!"

Why did Mingshi Xuyu refuse to become an official?

Xu Yu said that he would not accept Yao's throne, so he fled to the bottom of Ji Mountain, south of Yingshui, and cultivated the fields and acres, without the intention of ruling the world.

Suddenly, many years had passed, and Yao wanted to ask Xu Yu to be the governor of Kyushu, so he sent an emissary to talk to him. Xu Youben did not want to listen to such words, but since Yao had sent an emissary, it was not good not to let the emissary speak out. When he finished listening to the words he didn't want to hear, he hurried to the edge of the water to wash his ears.

At this time, Xu Yu is meeting his old friend Nest Father, a hermit who often builds nests in trees in summer. Father Chao led the calf to the river to drink water, and when he saw Xu Yu washing his ears carefully and carefully here, he felt very strange, so he asked Xu Yu, "Is there something dirty in your ears?"

Xu Yu replied, "Yao wants me to be the governor of Kyushu, and I listened to this poem that I hate, so I came to wash it." Father Chao listened to Xu You's words, rolled his eyes at him, and said, "Come on, brother, if you have been living in a high mountain and a deep valley, and there are no places where people can go, and you don't want anyone to know you, then who can come to your trouble?" You deliberately wandered around outside and created a reputation, and now you are washing your ears again, don't get my cow's mouth dirty!" With that, the nest father came to breathe, and led the calf to the upstream of the Yingshui to give the cow water.

Xu Yu listened to father Chao's words and really lived in seclusion for life. After his death, he was buried at the top of Mount Miyama. As a result, Miyama got another name called Xu Yushan.

It is said that there is still a tomb of Xu You on Miyama, there is a morning glory market at the bottom of the mountain, there is a spring called Calf Spring next to Yingshui, and there are hoof prints of calves on the stone, and legend has it that this is where the nest father morning glory drinks water.
