The scene of the trial

On April 28, the Grand Court of the Jiuquan Suzhou District People's Court publicly tried the case of 7 defendants Huo XX, Ma XX, Cao XX, Li XX, Ju XX, Fang XX, Chen XX, and Bian XX suspected of illegally acquiring, transporting, and selling precious and endangered wildlife and precious endangered wildlife products.

Case 1 In December 2016, defendant Huo X, in the "Beautiful Ghost" Strange Stone Museum operated by himself in an antique street in Jiuquan Suzhou District, purchased a golden eagle corpse from defendant Li X at an agreed price of 2,000 yuan. Later, after consultation, defendant Huo xxx used all his "strange stones" to offset the sale price of defendant Li xx's golden carving corpse. Defendant Li X pulled back the "strange stone" that reached the top and entrusted others to sell it. The golden sculpture body was later made into specimens by defendant Huo Moumou and sold.

Case 2 In May 2019, defendant Ma X sold 1 snow leopard skin to defendant Huo X for 12,000 yuan. Defendant Huo Moumou used 1 gold eagle specimen made to offset the price of snow leopard skin. On May 16, 2019, defendant Ma X mailed snow leopard skins from Li County, Longnan City, to Suzhou District, Jiuquan City, by mail, and notified defendant Huo X by telephone to receive the mail. At the same time, defendant Ma XX sold the golden eagle specimens made by defendant Huo XX to defendant Ju XX at a price of 33,000 yuan, and sent them to Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province through a logistics company, where they were received by defendant Ju XX. After identification, the snow leopard skin is a wild animal snow leopard product under national key protection at the national level, worth 400,000 yuan; the golden eagle is also a wild animal under national key protection at the national level, worth 80,000 yuan.

Case 3 In August 2012, defendant Cao Moumou drove from Jinchang City to Tianshui City to purchase a number of red-bellied golden chicken carcasses and transport them to his home for storage. Later, defendant Huo Moumou was invited to Jinchang City to make eagle specimens and red-bellied golden chicken specimens, and agreed that the processing and production fee would be offset by the remaining red-bellied golden chicken carcasses. After Huo went to Jinchang City to make 2 eagle specimens and 4 red-bellied chicken specimens, Cao transported the remaining red-bellied chicken carcasses from Tianshui City to Jiuquan City and handed them over to Huo to offset the processing fee. After huo moumou received the goods, he processed and made 3 of them, and the remaining 19 were stored in his own freezer, and were seized after the incident. This case found that defendant Cao XX acquired and transported 26 red-bellied golden pheasants, and defendant Huo xxx purchased 22 red-bellied golden pheasants. After identification, the red-bellied golden pheasant is a wild animal under national secondary key protection, and each one is worth 5,000 yuan.

Case 4 In October 2015, defendant Bian X drove a car from Alxa Right Banner in Inner Mongolia to Jiuquan, and picked up the body of a carved owl on the highway. Later, so-and-so contacted defendant Chen xx, and Chen xxx acquired it at a price of 600 yuan. Later, defendant Chen X handed over the carved owl body to defendant Fang X to make specimens. Defendants Fang xxx and Huo xxx made a specimen of the carved owl body and handed it to Chen xx, and collected a processing and production fee of 600 yuan. After identification, the eagle owl specimen is a wildlife eagle owl product under national second-level key protection, worth 15,000 yuan.

Case 5 On March 2, 2015, defendants Huo XX and Fang XX drove through the doorway of Hu XX, a villager in Yinda Town, Suzhou District, and purchased 1 goshawk picked up by Hu XX for 200 yuan. After the incident, the goshawk was seized from the freezer of defendant Huo. After identification, the goshawk is a wild animal under national secondary key protection, worth 25,000 yuan.

The public prosecution organ held that the defendants Huo xxx, Ma xx, Cao xx, Li xx, Ju xx, Fang xx, Chen xx, and Bian xx violated wildlife protection laws and regulations for the purpose of making profits, and should be pursued for criminal liability for the crime of illegally acquiring, transporting, and selling rare and endangered wildlife products on the basis of their specific conduct.

Sentencing in this case will be scheduled.
