Hefei, 29 Apr (Gao Peng, Luo Hongwei, Zhang Qiang) Reporters learned from the Public Security Bureau of Ningguo City, Anhui Province, on 29 April that the Police of Ningguo followed the line and conducted meticulous investigations, and successfully detected a case of "eclectic parrots" suspected of endangering precious and endangered wild animals.

Recently, the forest police brigade of the Ningguo City Public Security Bureau learned in its work that Zhan Mou, a man living in the city, was suspected of illegally raising wild protected animals. Subsequently, the police carefully searched Zhan's home and found that he did raise a parrot with green feathers and a pink mouth. After on-site inspection and contact with relevant experts, the police were preliminarily identified as "eclectic parrots" of national protected animals.

When confronted with police interrogation, the suspect Zhan Mou slyly argued that the "eclectic parrot" was given by a WeChat friend and refused to give specific details. In order to find out the truth, the police handling the case accidentally found around Zhan's WeChat chat record that he had frequent contact with a friend who sold bird food online, and there was evidence of the chat record of purchasing parrots between the two sides. Therefore, the police handling the case followed the line to quickly find out the true identity of the suspect, named Tao Mou, who lived in Wuhu City, Anhui Province.

In the face of the evidence provided by the police, the suspect Zhan Mou truthfully confessed that the "eclectic parrot" he illegally purchased and raised was purchased somewhere in Tao.

Take advantage of the chase. On April 28, the police handling the case rushed to Tao's home in Wuhu City after multiple investigations. With the assistance of the Wuhu police, the police handling the case finally seized a pair of "eclectic parrots" again at Tao's residence.

According to the police investigation, between 2015 and 2016, the criminal suspect Tao Mou purchased a pair of "eclectic parrots" through the Internet. In 2020, Tao sold a small "eclectic parrot" hatched to Zhan for more than 4,000 yuan.

"'Eclectic parrots' belong to birds of the order Parrots that are not native to China, and are currently listed in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Wild Fauna and Flora, and like China's national first- and second-level protected wild animals, they belong to the 'precious and endangered wild animals under national key protection' under the Criminal Law, and whether they are bought or sold involve violating the law." The police handling the case introduced it.

At present, the criminal suspects Tao and Zhan have been taken criminal compulsory measures by the Ningguo police, and the 3 "eclectic parrots" seized by the police have now been properly placed in the Wildlife Conservation Center; and the police are also further investigating the source of the purchase of "eclectic parrots" explained by Tao.
