Chinese painting master Qi Baishi's Chengdu anecdote

Mr. Xiao Gongquan, a famous scholar, lived in Sichuan for 23 years. In the winter of 1938, when the plum blossoms were in bloom, in a flower shop on Chunxi Road, he happened to take a fancy to a bouquet of green calyx plums, and when he asked, the boss asked for a price. It is also said: "There are several products of flowers, and there are several grades of people", which means that only noble people can appreciate noble flowers. These past events make me often look at Chunxi Road, not only want to see such flower sellers, but also eager to meet such flower appreciators...

Qi Baishi and Hu Kaiwen pen and ink shop

Chinese painting master Qi Baishi has an indissoluble relationship with Chunxi Road. This is to talk a little about "Hu Kai Wen Pen and Ink Shop".

The founder of Hu Kaiwen was Hu Tianzhu (1742-1808), a native of Shangzhuang Village, Jixi County, Jixi County, Anhui Province, whose original name was Hu Zheng (胡正), a native of Shangzhuang Village, Jixi County. It is said that once he returned from his hometown of Jixi Shangzhuang Village and passed through a xiyuan mountain. Halfway up the mountain, it was already dark, so I had to touch a nearby mountain temple to spend the night. Sleeping until midnight, I suddenly saw a white-haired old man holding an ink in his hand and floating around. The old man stood still in front of him and asked, "Are you The Hu Tianzhu of the Xiuning Wang Clan Ink Shop?" Hu Tianzhu said, "Exactly." How does the old man know the name? The old man smiled and said, "I am Li Tinggui of the Southern Tang Dynasty, and I know that you have succeeded the Wang's ink shop, and the shop is waiting to be revived, so I have come to convey the will of the gods." Hu Tianzhu woke up from the dream, and vaguely saw that there was a mottled plaque directly above the temple, Hu was overjoyed, and after returning to Xiuning, he hung up Hu Kaiwen's sign on the same day. According to the illusion in his dream, he fused the scenery of Huizhou's landscape and spent 9981 days making a set of ink molds, and the ink produced with it immediately shook the ink-making world and the literary world. Hu Kaiwen ink shop soon flourished. After Hu Tianzhu became rich with ink industry, he donated to the official and was given the title of Jiupin Yi and was given the title of Fengzhi Doctor.

Fang Xu, who was born in Hanlin, worked as a Sichuan scholar, retired from the Xinhai Revolution, and was good at poetry and calligraphy, especially calligraphy, and even Wang Minyun, the mountain chief of the Zunjing Academy, was praised. He had a fellow villager, Li Runbo, who specialized in pen and ink business, so he came up with the idea to ask Li Runbo to open a pen and ink shop in Chengdu called "Huizhou Hu Kaiwen". Li Runbo trafficked a lot of Anhui pen and ink, so in 1924 he opened the "Huizhou Hu Kaiwen Pen and Ink Village" in Qingshiqiao.

After 1926, the commercial hotspots of Chengdu gradually moved to the newly opened Chunxi Road, and Hu Kaiwen Pen and Ink Shop opened a branch on Chunxi Road. Soon after, the old Qingshiqiao store was closed and concentrated on the shop in the northern section of Chunxi Road.

In order to gather literati and celebrities and influential figures in the cultural circles, Hu Kaiwen Pen and Ink Shop also collected examples for Jinshi and calligraphers and painters. This pair of social people who love and need Jinshi calligraphy and painting also play a certain role as a medium. At that time, calligraphy, gold stones, Chinese painting and other art circles that had established a collection of examples with the store were: Xie Wuliang, Sheng Guangwei, Zheng Mantuo, Lin Junmo, Tang Gengyun, Shi Xiaochang, Yao Shiqian, Chen Liangqing, Zhang Songrong, Zhou Shenfu, Muyu and other famous artists.

In view of the great influence of Qi Baishi's calligraphy and painting, Chengdu calligraphy and painting enthusiasts have requested to seek Qi Baishi ink through Hu Kaiwen Pen and Ink Shop. After repeated contact and communication between the people in Beijing and the old man of Baishi, the old man of Baishi agreed to write and paint, which not only facilitated the customer, but also made the old man of Baishi and Chengdu form a relationship with Hanmo. In 1933, Qi Baishi sent his third son, Qi Liangkun, to Sichuan to make friends with prints and paintings.

According to the "Chronology of Qi Baishi", one morning in late May 1935, Qi Baishi accidentally bumped into the iron fence installed in front of the house to tighten the portal, poking and injuring his leg bone, which healed for several months. At the beginning of March 1936, at the invitation of The Chairman of Sichuan Province, Wang Miaoxu, he entered Shu with the jewel and three beautiful women of Liangzhi and Liangnian, and later engraved and painted in the "Shiyi Family". Bai Shi came to Chengdu, and there was an endless stream of people asking for books and paintings. Because Hu Kaiwen Pen and Ink Shop has all kinds of rice paper, drawing materials, pen and ink, it provides convenience for Qi Lao and meets the needs. After that, Elder Qi also visited the store hall to talk cordially with the staff of the store, and painted a souvenir for the whole store staff with great interest. He then went to Xindu, Qingcheng, Emeishan and other places, and returned to Beiping on September 5.

Qi Baishi visited Chunxi Road twice

Mr. Deng Muqing, who was a reporter of "New News" at the time, recorded for us the situation of the old man of Baishi traveling to Chengdu and Chunxi Road, after more than 70 years, it is still so clear and perceptible-

Bai Shi Shan Weng went to Chengdu for three days, tired of body, and had not yet painted. At eight o'clock in the afternoon yesterday (May 30), when the reporter was just about to go out of the street, it happened that he was always wearing glasses, walking into the newspaper office with his bare head and his wife, and when he saw it, he was extremely happy, so he asked him to sit in the guest room of this newspaper with his old man. After drinking tea, he asked for this newspaper to read, and when he offered a copy, he looked at several lines, and he said that he could not finish reading it for a while, so he handed it to his ji people to take back to the apartment and read it again. He always told reporters that he was going to buy some scattered objects, please be a guide for him, and also come to meet him.

After sitting in the room for a while and talking about some words, he asked the reporter to go out of the street and walked toward the north section of Chunxi Road. He was in good spirits and walked very strongly, and when he only went up and down the stairs, the Ji people were afraid of his effort, and they helped him with his hands a little.

On Chunxi Road, he always told reporters that Chengdu diet, he is accustomed to eating, but he is a person who has lived in the township for a long time, likes to eat "hometown flavor", the chef makes the dishes rich and spicy, sometimes adding some "MSGs" is more delicious, and it is not in line with the way of health. He likes to eat vegetables, just put a little salt, cooked in water is a good food. He said that he was a guest in a foreign country, and it was inconvenient to make dishes, and he wanted to buy a steam stove and a small iron pot to cook by himself.

The reporter knew that he wanted to buy an air stove and other utensils, so he went with him to the Chunxi Road Department Store to see it. On the way, he asked me if I was well, because when the reporter visited him the day before (twenty-nine days), he had a cold headache, and after he asked clearly, he talked about the prescription, which was precious and precious, which made people feel that he was kind to people.

Buying an air stove in the "Wanlichang" department store, the asking price is more than ten yuan each, the banknote price is more than double that of Shanghai, and the goods are not good. After looking at two more, he was old to the "Yida" store, the goods were slightly better, and as a result, he always bought a steam stove with six yuan octagonal notes, he took a ten-yuan banknote from the central bank, and asked the store to find a supplementary corner ticket in order to sit on the street car, and the store answered that there was no corner ticket to find a supplement, and the reporter also said to the people in the store, please find some corner tickets for this old pocket money. There is nothing the shop can do. He couldn't help but sigh: "Everyone says chengdu is good, who knows that it is not easy to use money." "The people in the shop listened to his old accent as a foreigner, so they tried in many ways to find six five-pointed tickets and one two-corner ticket." His Ji people took a fancy to the "Yida" sandalwood folding fan, wanted to buy a handle, he always saw it and said that the upper section of the sandalwood folding fan was made of bamboo, the lower section was sandalwood, not durable, the fragrance was not long, he always said that the bamboo folding fan was much better. His Ji people did not buy it...

The details of this kerosene stove can very well reflect the temperament of the old man of Shiraishi. Mr. Deng Muqing further disclosed the news in the "New News" on June 26, 1936:

He walked along Chunxi Road with his people, his long white hair, and a folding fan with white paper uncollected in his hand. He said he had visited Xindu a few days ago. On the same day, it was transferred to Chengdu. He said that the scenery of Qingcheng Mountain in Guanxian County was beautiful, and when the heat was slightly reduced, he was going to visit. Liu Jun (Qiming) introduced him to the ancient monuments of Chengdu at that time, zhuge Wuhou Observatory (in Tianfu Middle School), Waixi Fuqin Terrace, Zhao Zilong Wash Ma Pond (in Heping Street), Ziyun Pavilion and other places. He said he must go on a tour and asked to be a guide. Qi said: It was hot at the time, and he painted or carved in the morning. In the afternoon, when it is hot, he rests, and when he paints and heals the seal, he takes it away, and there is no room left in the apartment, and he must paint every day, without interruption.

When it comes to Wu Changshuo and Huang Binhong's clans, he did not express any opinion, but during his conversation, he had a feeling of great alcohol and small flaws towards Wu. Talking about general painting, he expressed disappointment, he said: "Painting is the same as reading, you have to read more paintings in order to have it, and you have less hope under the pen at every turn." He said that his paintings, the average person may not be able to see, because he does not abide by the law, does not fall behind the old people, and is invincible to the high and widowed. He praised Yu Zhongying in Chengdu. He said that Yu had recently painted bamboo very well, and his treatment of the seal was also good, and there was hope at the top.

Everyone talked about Mr. Wang Xiangqi (his teacher's) contribution to Sichuan culture in the late Qing Dynasty, and he always respected Xiangqi very much, and he said that Xiangqi was really everyone, and his joy and anger and laughter were all written. He said that in his early years, when Xiangqi was there, whenever he had problems, he would ask Xiangqi to benefit more...

On May 1, 2004, Qi Liangzhi, the youngest daughter of Chinese painting master Qi Baishi, and granddaughter Qi Yuanyuan retraced Qi Baishi's Shu tour and collected materials for new paintings. As soon as the 74-year-old Qi Liangzhi left Shuangliu Airport, he couldn't wait to go to the downtown area of Chunxi Road and other places to find the century-old shop "Shi Wei Jia" where his father had entered Shu and carved his seal. That night, Qi Liangzhi also painted with Cen Xuegong and other famous artists in the Sichuan calligraphy and painting circles, talking about some of the life moments of his father Qi Baishi, Qi Liangzhi was full of emotions.
