Kelly Clayson looks back on her turbulent past year, including her announcement of divorce from her husband, Brand Blackstock. (Kelly Clayson's representative works: "Stronger", "Because of You")
The musician confessed on her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, that she's known herself better than ever in the past few months.
"Even at 38, I still feel like I've been changing and improving in a good way. I always want to make sure I'm the best version of myself," Clayson said.
The Grammy Award winner admits she still relies on her mum Jenny's advice.
"From the time I was a child, my mother always told me: The people around you are you." Clayson explains. "You want to make sure you're the best, and the people around you have to be the best you can be, and you have to work for everyone to have a good common goal!"
Clayson continues: "For example, some people may be harmful to you for a certain period of time. Probably a lot of people will think they're bad people. But I don't think so, it just means you're on different paths. I think people are not the same. (Hints at the possible causes of divorce: different ways, no conspiracy)

In June 2020, Clayson filed for divorce from Blackstock on the grounds of "irreconcilable disagreements." The couple asked to raise two children together: daughter Reyve, 5, and son, Remington, 4.
Clayson first publicly stated her breakup in September, when she resumed filming her daytime show.
"As you probably know, 2020 has also brought a lot of changes to my personal life," Clayson said at the time. "I really don't see any change, but I'm in a tough situation right now – it's not just about my heart, it's about a lot of my friends."
Clayson said that while she will discuss the impact of divorce on her personally, she won't reveal too many details, "Because I'm also a mom, my kids are the most important." ”
