In Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province, there is the Zhang Tailei Memorial Hall. Here, taking Zhang Tailei's revolutionary footprints as a clue, through oil paintings, physical objects, photos and other historical materials, he shows his revolutionary and brilliant life, and also tells people's thoughts and concerns about him.

Zhang Tailei, whose original name was Zhang Zengrang, was born in June 1898 in Wujin, Jiangsu. In 1915, he was admitted to Peking University, and in the winter of the same year, he transferred to Tianjin Beiyang University (now Tianjin University) to study law. Because of his determination to turn into "thunder", he washed away the haze and transformed the old society, and later changed his name to Zhang Tailei to Mingzhi.

When the May Fourth Patriotic Movement broke out in 1919, Zhang Tailei actively participated in it and became one of the backbones of the patriotic movement in Tianjin. During the movement, Zhang Tailei established contact with Li Dazhao, who had been admired for a long time. Under the influence of Li Dazhao, Zhang Tailei began to contact and believe in Marxism, and participated in the Marxist Theory Research Association organized by Li Dazhao at Peking University to assist him in the work of creating the Communist Party of China. In October 1920, Zhang Tailei, Deng Zhongxia and others joined the early communist party organization initiated by Li Dazhao and others in Beijing, becoming one of the earliest members of the Communist Party of China.

After that, he actively carried out the workers' movement together with Deng Zhongxia, and went to Changxindian to set up a labor remedial school, which trained the first backbone of the northern railway workers' movement. Beginning in the spring of 1921, Zhang Tailei successively went to the Soviet Union to work and study, served as the secretary of the Chinese section of the Far East Secretariat of the Comintern, and accompanied the delegates sent by the Comintern to China on many occasions to meet with Li Dazhao, Chen Duxiu, Sun Yat-sen, etc., participated in the activities of founding the Communist Party of China, and promoted the first Kuomintang-Communist cooperation.

After returning to China in 1924, Zhang Tailei was responsible for the work of the Regiment Central Committee. In January 1925, he was elected secretary of the Central Committee of the Chinese Socialist Youth League at the Third National Congress of the League, attended the Fourth National Congress of the Party and was elected as an alternate member of the Central Committee. In 1925, the two Guangdong District Committees of the Communist Party of China were changed to the Guangdong District Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Zhang Tailei was one of the main responsible persons of the district committees. From February 1926 to April 1927, Zhang Tailei was the editor-in-chief of the People's Weekly, an organ of the Guangdong District Party Committee.

From April to May 1927, Zhang Tailei attended the Fifth National Congress of the Communist Party of China and sharply criticized Chen Duxiu's right-leaning opportunist mistakes. In order to save the revolution, the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, with Zhang Tailei as its secretary, clearly put forward strategies and suggestions such as arming peasants to "go up the mountain" and winning local armed forces in early June. After the Reorganization of the CPC Central Committee in July, Zhang Tailei was appointed as one of the five members of the Standing Committee of the Provisional Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee; after the 1987 Conference, he was sent to Guangdong to work as secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Military Commission, secretary of the Southern Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and member of the Military Commission of the Southern Bureau.

As soon as Zhang Tailei arrived in Guangdong, he immediately studied and formulated a plan for riots throughout Guangdong Province, and initiated the establishment of the Revolutionary Military Committee, the command body of the Guangzhou Uprising, as chairman of the committee. Just as preparations were intense, news of the uprising leaked. Zhang Tailei immediately decided that the gunfire of the Guangzhou Uprising had begun in advance in the early morning of December 11, 1927. Under the presidency of Zhang Tailei, the Guangzhou Soviet Government was established, and he served as acting chairman and member of the People's Navy and Army.

On December 12, the day after the Guangzhou Uprising, the enemy captured important positions of the rebel army and divided its troops directly into the general headquarters of the rebel army. Zhang Tailei heard the news and immediately rushed to the front line to command the battle. The car was ambushed by the enemy during the drive, and Zhang Tailei was shot three times in the open-top car with a red flag and died heroically. He used his short life course of 29 years to fulfill the Zhengzheng oath of "willing to turn into thunder that shattered the old world".

Walking into the Zhang Tailei Memorial Hall, the words "Seek Happiness forever in the future" on the wall of the exhibition hall come into view. "This is a sentence in Zhang Tailei's family book, and it is also Zhang Tailei's unswerving pursuit throughout his life." Huang Mingyan, director of the Changzhou Sanjie Memorial Hall, said that he chose communism under the circumstance that there were many ideological trends at that time, and spent his life practicing it, not afraid of sacrifice, and dedicating himself to the cause of the Chinese revolution with outstanding talent, high enthusiasm and young life.

At the end of 2020, Changzhou city will fully launch the Changzhou Sanjie Memorial Hall and the surrounding environment improvement project, including the addition of a Tailei youth belief space in the Zhang Tailei Memorial Hall. "The Tailei Youth Faith Space mainly provides customized micro-party classes, regimental course services, etc., which truly combines party history, regimental history learning and colorful theme activities." Huang Mingyan said.
