Amazon's MMO game "New World" has recently become a global hit, but its game studio's first game," "Melting Pot," was announced last year to stop developing due to poor response. In a recent interview with NME, Amazon vice president Christoph Hartmann spoke frankly about the company's failed shooter, The Melting Pot.

Released in May 2020, The Melting Pot was pulled back for closed testing in June of the same year and eventually stopped development in October. Hartmann acknowledges that the company has learned a valuable lesson from the game: Don't try to chase the game's development trends.

Hartmann said in an interview: "This is one of the lessons that The Melting Pot has taught us. Don't do what everyone else does just because everyone else is playing battle royale shooters, just because there's Fortnite and PUBG. We did it wrong. That was my first year [at Amazon]. We've already made a decision, and by the time we started developing The Melting Pot, Fortnite wasn't born yet. You know, it's not just imitation. Many people had the same idea at the time. ”

Hartmann then explained that the reason he was so keen to make New World an MMO game was because MMO games weren't popular at the moment. Hartmann said: "We created MMO because everyone is moving away from it. I've had great experience and been able to do things that other people don't want to do. ”

In the interview, he also praised Amazon's actions after the melting pot was canceled, Hartmann said: "My whole approach to making games is perfect for Amazon because it also always wants to play long-term games, and after The Melting Pot, Amazon didn't panic and change everything, it didn't fire anyone; it just became more ambitious, said 'let's redouble our efforts' and started to see what I could learn from this experience." ”
