In the past few days and months, we often see the news, especially in the Guangzhou area, there are several cases of cracking the crime of illegal acquisition of wild animals, of which 3 cases are related to stone turtles.
Shocked, but powerless. Judging from my personal experience, the turtles that were cracked are basically artificially bred, and there is no trace of wild turtles, which can be judged by the turtle's growth pattern and body color. Generally wild turtles, the growth pattern is relatively dense, the shell will appear traces of water rust, and the relationship between the environment will wear more. Of course, this is not something I said alone, but also depends on the opinions of experts.
The breeding of stone turtles in China is already a very mature species, especially in the two Guangdong areas, the number of stocks is conservatively estimated to exceed 100 million. So why are the many stone turtles that are so numerous that they are protected animals?
Reason one: the wild population is small, and although the stone turtle is not a turtle unique to our country, it is also distributed in China. The main production area is the Vietnamese region, so the southern species is generally called the Vietnamese stone turtle, the main production of the northern species in anhui, also known as the southern Anhui small green turtle, and the Taiwan Province region is the Taiwan big green turtle. Although the artificial breeding of the above subspecies is a very mature variety, it is a pity that the wild population is really small, like Xiaobian, who likes to climb mountains, basically have not encountered wild turtles.
Reason two: influenced by extreme protectionists in the country. For years, the group has been trying to impose strict measures on turtles in the country, banning artificial breeding. On the contrary, it adopts a relaxed attitude towards foreign turtles, which is why so many people release Brazilian turtles, causing the invasion of alien species, seriously affecting the ecological environment of domestic turtles, and making the local turtles frequently extinct. They are not allowed to breed, and they do not agree with this kind of traitorous behavior. Therefore, Xiaobian still believes that at this stage, allowing artificial breeding is the greatest protection of species. (Personal opinion only)
Reason three: According to the Ministry of Agriculture Document No. 69, the stone money turtle is a second-level protected animal (only the wild population), which means that the stone money turtle in the wild is a protected animal, and artificial breeding is not counted, so how to prove that it is artificial? The best way to do this is to apply for a breeding permit. Experts cannot be expected to prove to you that it is artificial, and it is often seen that some so-called experts identify crocodile turtles as Chinese grass turtles and Chinese grass turtles as three-lined closed-shell turtles. Therefore, I implore law enforcement departments to suggest cases of turtles, and can ask some professionals in the industry to conduct identification.
Reason 4: In violation of the "Epidemic Management Law", the new crown epidemic has brought serious disasters to humans, and the epidemic is still spreading relentlessly, although there is no clear evidence that the virus originated from wild animals, and there is no evidence that the virus of aquatic animals can be transmitted to humans. But a blanket ban should be the best way to deal with it. But what is clear is that after the epidemic, the stone turtle will open, just like the grass turtle turtle. It can be sold as a normal aquatic product.
