Sydney, 15 Oct (Xinhua) -- A 6.4-magnitude earthquake occurred in the waters near the Solomon Islands on the 15th at 13:44 local time (10:44 Beijing time). No casualties or property damage have been reported.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey's Earthquake Information Network, the epicenter of the earthquake was located about 172.9 kilometers north-northwest of Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands, with a depth of 22.6 kilometers. The U.S. Geological Survey initially measured the magnitude of the earthquake at magnitude 6.6, which was subsequently adjusted to a magnitude of 6.4.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre did not issue a tsunami warning for the earthquake.
