According to the automatic measurement of the China Earthquake Observatory Network, at 14:29 Beijing time on October 2, 2021 (18:29 local time on October 2, 2021), an earthquake of about 7.1 magnitude occurred in the Vanuatu Archipelago area (21.09 degrees south latitude, 174.87 degrees east longitude), and the final result was subject to the official rapid report.

According to Xinhua News Agency, Suva, October 2, a 7.2-magnitude earthquake occurred in the waters near Vanuatu, a South Pacific island country. No casualties or property damage have been reported.
The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre initially measured the magnitude of the earthquake at 6.7, then adjusted to a magnitude of 7.2, with a focal depth of 531 km.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre did not issue a tsunami warning for the earthquake.
Vanuatu is located in the Pacific Ring of Volcanic Seismic Belt and is frequently affected by the collision of crust plates.
