Rob Marshall may direct Disney's live-action version of "The Little Mermaid"

According to Variety, Disney had officially extended an invitation to Hollywood director Rob Marshall to direct a live-action version of The Little Mermaid.

Last year, Disney brought in Jane Goldman to write the screenplay, Lin Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken to write songs, and Lin Manuel Miranda also took on the production role.

"The Little Mermaid" originally came from the fairy tale of Ai Tusheng, telling the poignant love story that occurred after she met the prince of the land. Disney filmed the animated version of The Little Mermaid in 1989, which was lighthearted and humorous, and abandoned the tragic ending of the original story to replace it with a family reunion, which grossed $211 million worldwide. Subsequently, Disney launched "The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea" and "The Little Mermaid 3: The Origin of Ariel" in 2000 and 2008, respectively.

If Rob Marshall succeeds in taking over the guide, it will be his fourth Disney film to direct after Pirates of the Caribbean: Stranger Tides, Enchanted Black Forest, and Happy Man 2. Among them, the new version of "Happy People" starring Emily Blunt, Colin Firth and Meryl Streep will be released on December 25, 2018.

Rob Marshall was nominated for an Oscar for Best Director for directing Chicago. Subsequently, he also made popular films such as "Memoirs of a Geisha" and "Nine", and was good at shooting music and magic films.
