When it comes to putting together one of the scariest movies, it's relatively easy to compile this "best" list. Most of the movies I've selected are mainstream thrillers that give goosebumps and even the most die-hard horror movie fans are there. You're a brave movie lover, and if you can watch the top ten horror movies without screaming!
1. The Exorcist (1973)

It's impossible to put the Top Ten Horror Movies together without putting the Exorcist on or near the top. Linda Blair plays the young daughter of an actress (played by Alan Justin) whose imaginary friend turns out to be the devil. With scenes like this, even in this age of CGI technology, the audience screams and trembles, and the exorcist is a terrible demonic possession.
2. Rosemary's Baby (1968)
Rosemary (Mia Farrow) and her husband Guy (John Casaverts) move into an apartment with beautiful, loving neighbors — or at least what Rosemary thinks. When she was pregnant, the atmosphere in the apartment complex changed and the question became, "Who or what gave birth?"
3. Omen of Evil (1976)
Richard Donner directed the chilling horror film, starring Gregory Pike and Lee Renick. The omen places the son of the devil in the happy home of a prominent, influential political family. Chaos occurs when the child grows up and destroys any demon eggs and his goal of ruling the world.
4. Noisy Ghost (1982)
Staring at a blurry TV screen was never as scary as it was at Polegeist. As if the film itself wasn't scary enough, there seems to be a curse surrounding the actors (including child star Heather O'Rourke, who died prematurely). Does the movie appear more on screen than it does?
5. The Shining (1980)
Jack Nicholson and Shelly Duval starred in Director Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, based on Stephen King's novel. This version of The Shining is one of the best adaptations of Stephen King's novel, faithful in tone and spirit—though the king himself doesn't care.
6. Ghost Cry (1979)
Here's my list because when I first saw it, it scared me to death. In retrospect, it wasn't as scary as the Exorcist and other horror classics. But because I remember how scared I was at the time, there should be a place for it on this list. Ryan Reynolds, Melissa George plays a couple who move into a house, unaware that a family has been brutally murdered.
7. Alien (1979)
You have to love a movie that spins out the slogan: "In space, no one can hear your screams." Sigourney Weaver may have made headlines for Strong Girl, but the real stars of the movie are those scary aliens. Aliens created a series, but nothing is more important than the original.
8. The Sixth Sense (1999)
The Sixth Sense is more of a psychological thriller than a direct horror film, starring Malcolm Crowe, a child psychologist who won an award and returns home to find a very dissatisfied former patient lying there waiting. Soon, Crowe was determined to help another child in need. Crowe begins working with Cole, a young boy who thinks he sees dead people. Crowe and Cole team up to find the source of Cole's terrible idea.
9. Halloween (1978)
The nanny played by John Carpenter in the 1978 horror classic Jamie Lee Curtis is freaked out by psychotic killer Michael Miles. The first , and the best " Halloween " film , Carpenter's film made just $300,000 and grossed $47 million at the U.S. box office.
10. The Capture of the Wronged Souls (1980)
George C. Scott plays a lonely man whose family is killed in an accident. After retiring, he began to experience creepy paranormal phenomena.
