On the afternoon of April 15, a small guest came to the park of East YilanYuan Kindergarten in Furong District, Changsha City, an injured purple bird. When the kindergarten teacher found out, he contacted the staff of the nearby Red Cross Hospital and the Changsha Wildlife Conservation Association to treat them.

But eventually, due to internal injuries, before the arrival of the association staff, the bird died and was buried in a quiet corner of the park. Later, the staff of the association confirmed that this purple bird was a purple howling bird with a blue-purple flying feather, and their call was very beautiful.
The injured purple bird came to the kindergarten
At 14:00 on the afternoon of April 15, the children of the East YilanYuan Kindergarten were taking a nap. Kindergarten teacher Huang Yaruo was passing by the window sill on the second floor when he found a small bird lying on the platform on the second floor. Unlike other birds, this bird has blue-purple feathers and a very eye-catching appearance.
Wang Lin, another teacher at the school, told reporters that after seeing this unusual bird, Huang Yaruo turned over the railing of the window sill and saw that the other party was still lying on the ground. Huang Yaruo had thought of driving the bird away, but the other party still did not move. So she put the bird in the basket and brought it back to the office.
"The teacher in our office looked at it for a while and thought the bird must have been injured. So we discussed it and took the bird to the Red Cross Hospital first. Wang Lin said that because there is no veterinary station near the kindergarten, when she contacted it, the nursery staff of the kindergarten was responsible for sending the bird over.
According to Wang Lin's recollection, when the doctors in the hospital examined the bird, they found that it could not stand up at all, but could only lie on its side, and the bird had no obvious trauma. "The doctor said [the bird] should have been an internal injury caused by eating rat poison or some other toxic substance." Subsequently, the doctor gave the bird an oral solution with detoxification function. "The Red Cross hospital said that if there is no problem with taking the medicine, it will slowly get better, and if the medicine has no effect, it may still die."
Since the Red Cross Hospital does not accept birds, they are taken back to kindergarten after taking their medicine. Wang Lin told reporters that the teachers took a small cup to fill the bird with a little water, and then put it in the kindergarten for observation.
The Purple Howling bird eventually died of internal injuries
"On the afternoon of the day I was brought back from the Red Cross hospital, the purple bird was in a much better condition." Wang Lin said that at about 16:00 that afternoon, when she went to observe the birds, the other party also jumped out of the basket and dragged her body to the ground for two or three meters. "Maybe I scared it." Subsequently, the teachers put a little millet and small bugs on the side, but the birds did not eat.
On the morning of April 16, the teachers noticed that the purple bird still could not stand up, but was able to sit up. "We just feel like it's getting better." Subsequently, Wang Lin found the phone number of the Forestry Bureau on the Internet and explained the situation. In the morning, Zhou Canying, president of the Changsha Wildlife Conservation Association, contacted Wang Lin, and the two sides agreed that the staff of the association would come to rescue the purple bird at noon that day.
Unfortunately, before the association staff could arrive, the purple bird closed its eyes forever. "When we were just out of touch and ready to take some pictures of it, we found that it was slowly failing." Wang Lin said that at first everyone thought that the bird was asleep, so they shook its body. But after a while, the bird's head slowly hung down again, and no matter how much it shouted, it could not wake up. "Finally, I confirmed with the society that the bird was dead." So the teachers found a quiet place in the small park next to the kindergarten and buried the birds.
Afterwards, the staff of the Changsha Wildlife Conservation Association confirmed according to the shape of the bird in the photo that it was a purple howling bird. "The purple-whistling plover has a blue-purple flying feather, inhabits the rocks of rocky mountain streams, mainly distributed in East and Southeast Asia, and is distributed in North China, East China, Central China, South China and Southwest China." Zhou Canying said.
Kopp: What should I do when I find an injured bird?
What should we do if we see injured wild birds? Zhou Canying, president of the Changsha Wildlife Conservation Association, gave an answer.
The first time an injured bird is found, it is necessary to restore its physical strength by allowing it to resume eating, which is the key to the success of wildlife rescue, and if necessary, it needs to be artificially fed. "When you find injured birds, you can try to give them some water and food, and then you should contact a professional rescue agency for diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible." Zhou Canying said.
Zhou Canying told reporters that because animals have a natural sense of fear of humans, there will usually be a stress response when they are rescued. In severe cases, animals can manifest dehydration, immunosuppression, and extreme fatigue, and even death. Therefore, while waiting for rescue, the injured animal should be placed in a quiet environment with few people to minimize human interference with the animal.
